Hi,

So I'm doing the tight regulation and I was reading about it and it says to reduce the dose immediately if its 40, but what if it's 65? Is it also considered too low(hypo)?

You aren’t testing enough for TR. You need 2 tests every cycle, preshots plus one more. When you get a lime you need to feed and test again in 30 minutes. Then when in the 70’s every hour. Don’t become complacent. The bg could drop again.

I don't become complacent. This is why I'm asking questions here. I also can't take a lot of tests every day because I don't have enough test strips for that and I have to make sure I have enough for at least one curve and for the whole month(preshots), I can't afford to buy these strips twice a month. I'm trying to do the best I can at the moment.

Reduce if there’s a drop under 68. So reduce tonight. Why not use a human meter? Strips are so much less expensive. The two rule is for safety. You could also switch to SLGS if you can’t get those tests done.

Ah I think I have to get a human meter next month because I can't buy anything this month, but it would be so much cheaper indeed.

It will be much easier to manage fd with the human meter. I used to buy strips on eBay auction and saved a lot of money. Never had a problem with them either. I kept 100-300 around at any time so looked for good deals and long expiration dates.

One thing, I was just reading the page here about the dosing methods and at the end there was a note saying:
  • Shooting an hour or two late *could* act like a slight dose reduction. Please ask for guidance if you're unsure.
Today I gave insulin two hours later than usual, so normally I give at 10am but because I slept in today I gave at 12pm I'm so hesitant to decrease the dose tonight, could the hypo today be because of that? Even tho the low number happened at +5?

Giving a reduced dose, or the equivalent of a later dose, would not drop the numbers low. Shooting early might. You need to shoot 0.25 units tonight as Missy earned a reduction. Also, the earliest you can shoot tonight is 11:30. We can move the shot earlier either 1/2 hour once per day, or 15 minutes per cycle. Here is a post on Getting back on a 12/12 shot schedule

One other thing, please test again soon. When you see a number below 68 on the AT, you need to feed higher carb food and test again in 20-30 minutes to make sure he's come up into safe numbers.

Ah yes, thank you, I'll shoot at 11:30 tonight:) I'll see how he will do tomorrow, I'll take a lot of tests.

So I've been doing a curve today, taking glucose every hour and what do you think of his numbers? I'm worried about them being high rn.

It’s not high at all. I’m surprised he didn’t go way higher and you didn’t see a big bounce with that 65 yesterday. It still could happen. Fur being so new to fd and lantus he is looking great!

He isn't new to lantus tho, he got on insulin a year ago and I just recently started the spreadsheet, I'm worried that the 0.25 units is too low now:(How do I know if I have to increase the dose again?

With a pet meter we still suggest a reduction. Give it about 4 cycles to clear and then go back to .50 if you don’t see green. He could have gone even lower than 65 but we don’t know.

Damn
I just freaked out again! The same thing happened with the previous dose reduction,it was a bit high and then it stabilized, I'll give it few days

Next time you want to do a curve, it's OK to test every 2 hours for 12 hours. That way you'll save some test strips so you can test at night or again after a low number like that 65 you saw yesterday.
