Hi everyone,
After the vomiting and nausea episodes that have been going on I took Blaze to the vet for a senior wellness profile complete blood test (for his organ functions) and for an ultrasound. I also asked to have the SPEC fPL checked.
I have received the results and I would like to post them here for some feedback.
His blood test was all great except for the elevated Spec fPL (it shows on the results).
I discussed the results with the vet this morning and this is the plan he is suggesting:

Do another blood test to check his cobalamin and and folate levels.

1) If his cobalamin is low, he wants Blaze to have SQ injections for 6 weeks, once a week. He said I can do those at home. When the course of the B12 is done, we would check his blood again and hopefully things would improve from there.

2) If the levels are good, he suggests consultation with a nutritionist to figure out a different food to put him on.

So basically IBD is a possibility and the minor thickening should not be too much of a concern for neoplasia.

I actually am not sure how to post the report here because when i try to upload a file, it gives me an error message...any suggestions?

Thank you so much,
Paola

The upload a file does not work and I guess can’t be fixed. You can add labs to your ss tab and take a picture of the ultrasound report and paste it here.

Tge SpecfPL was only slightly above. It might be that the pancreatitis is passing. What normal t4?

Good plan on getting the B12/cobalamin and folate tested and supplementing B12 if low. Not sure you need to consult a nutritionist for a new diet. If IBD, basically you want a good probiotic (I give Visbiome) and a novel protein diet. More info here: https://www.ibdkitties.net/ and here: https://www.rawfeedingforibdcats.org/ There are lots of novel protein options that work for diabetic cats. If a novel protein diet doesn't work, you might have to consider a biopsy to differentiate between IBD and small cell lymphoma - which is treatable by the way. SCL cats can go into remission. Unfortunately the report does not say which part of the bowels are thickened, some parts can be reached by endoscopic biopsy.

Thank you Wendy,
We are going to get the blood test first and then go from there. Thank you for the links, I am going to have a look today. Yes he didn't specify which part of the bowel is thickened. The vet did mention the biopsy but he also said that it is possible that even after doing the biopsy, the results are sometimes still not definitive and clear about telling what is the cause of the thickening. For now, I am going to look into a novel protein, into the probiotic and we will do the blood test. Thank you so much for your suggestions :bighug:
