Hello, I am very honored to be posting and seek for an advice from very knowledgeable groups of people in this forum!. He was diagnosed diabetes in 1/25/22. He was in vetsulin and was recommended Lantus with new vet.
But his numbers are not doing well.

I have recently (Sat last week, 3/13 changed from 2 unit to 3 unit.)
And from today morning changed 3 unit to 3.5 unit. He is on low carb wet food only diet.

I am getting worry sick since his numbers aren’t coming down like other cats in this forum..
if this 3.5 does doesn’t work, I may have to discuss with vet and try to bump up to 4 later..

Any suggestion?

Ps. I wanted point out that starting from tonight, 3/18 8pm 1. I tested (pmps) 2. Give shot 3. Gave food. But previously I have been giving food one hour prior to shot (ex, 7pm food -> 7:55pm test -> Insulin shot)

Thank you in advance
Erin

Hi Erin,

Welcome to the Lantus forum! :-)

Since you are feeding low carb food and testing enough, I suggest you follow the TR dosing protocol which allows for faster dose increases. It is a matter of getting him to a good dose.

How is he besides his numbers? Did his vet check his teeth? Does he have any other health issues that could be contributing to his high blood sugar? When was the last time his bloodwork was done?

Hello! Nice to see you in this section again.
He is doing good, bit more energetic, eating well (still hungry!), drinking water (not as much as before, he used to lay down by the water bowl), running around, playing with other cat (Danchu). Vet checked his gum and teeth, he said its good for now. He does not have any other issues or history of illness until now. His full blood work was done when he was diagnosed diabetes, 1/25/22. First vet told me that there is nothing serious except his glucose level. Also second vet (current) said that all numbers looks normal, just fructosamine levels are high. With second vet (around 2/15), we did Urine test and another blood work (just to see fructosamine level and keto) showed no UTI, no infection, just high level of sugar in urine, and in blood work too, just high BG.

I guess thats why vet referral Gumung to internal specialist which is scheduled 4/25/22. Hopefully by that date, I just wish I could be able to control his number.

Thank you again for your comment

Hi! I agree with Bhooma. Since you test so much, you'd be able to get GuMung into better numbers faster with TR. It made a big difference for Ruby. Within 6 weeks of switching to TR, she started responding very well to insulin. You have to get to the right dose to break through the insulin resistance that has been built up. Good luck!

Thank you for advice! I am starting to read TR, do you think I should stay for 3-5 days with current increased dose? And increase after? If I need to?

Yes. TR can be a little confusing at first, so if you have any questions when 6-10 cycles have passed and you want someone to review the numbers with you, please post here. And if the cat is below 68 at any time, you reduce the next dose immediately by .25 units. :)

I see. I will have to tightly monitor his numbers too with this bit aggressive method.
Thank you
