Hi all!

My cat Sunday tested at 85 at PMPS, I stalled 20 min and she ate. Just tested again and she is at 87. I still haven’t given her shot because she’s too low.

How should I proceed? Thank you!

She has earned a reduction to .75. She’s likely earned reductions before this. With SLGS a curve is fine e dry 7 days. We have no idea how low she has gone on her current dose. When you stall you don’t feed. The food takes 20-30 minutes to bring up the bg. I think you should skip tonight or else check in two hours and decide. The reason why I would skip is because you don’t have any nadirs.

Oh man. I thought I did that right with the food. Dang it. Ok I will check again in 2 hours. I will also mention, she is going to the vet tomorrow for a dental cleaning and they wanted to do a glucose curve while she’s there.

The idea behind stalling is you don’t feed. If you feed the next test is food influenced. I don’t understand why they would do a curve with a dental. You can’t feed your cat when under anesthesia. Makes no sense. Cats can be higher at the vet due to stress. Curves at the vet are a waste of money in my opinion. Were you told to give insulin in the morning?

It was a little confusing to me too considering I home test. I asked why it was necessary when I could text and give them the data… they told me not to shoot in the morning when I normally would. I am dropping her off before her normal AM shot time.

If high enough in two hours you can shoot and then skip in the morning. She was too low to shoot tonight. If you decide to shoot tonight you might need to test later in the cycle. That’s why if she doesn’t go up above 150 I would skip tonight as well. I know that means two skipped shots but it’s what I would do.

Thank you so much for your advice. I will keep testing.

Just tested her at the +2 and she is at 147.

I think I may skip tonight and get a couple of tests in during the night. Should I test right before I leave tomorrow and perhaps give half her normal dose if her numbers are really high, and tell the vet the situation? I can advise them I do not need a curve done, just normal monitoring.

Anesthesia can lower BG. If my cat I would skip. Some do give a half dose though so since they will monitor you could.
