With long term diabetics they need to fall under 40 to earn a reduction. That happened to get him to 1.75. He didn’t drop under 40 again. The depot is effecting his bg. So don’t take another reduction.

Thanks for the reply. He dropped to 43 from 48 in 30min after having HC food it’s only 3 points to 40. So was thinking he earned a reduction…

No. It’s the depot influence and not under 40. It can take an hour or more to get over 50 even with hc. It’s just like a 50 doesn’t earn a reduction. The depot can influence 4 cycles, sometimes more.

Ok I’m confused as I thought that I reduce whenever he drop to 40 or under. Didn’t know I have to hold the dose for few cycles despite the low reading….

You drop the dose if UNDER 40. You did that from 2.0 to 1.75. The depot is influencing his numbers so you don’t take another reduction while the depot is influencing. If after 4 cycles he’s under 40 you could then take another reduction. Back to back reductions rarely work. You hold the syringe so if you want to reduce you can.
You didn’t reduce on 2/28 because he never went below 40. The next night he did and you reduced.

I hope you will be able to carefully monitor him tomorrow. How is he feeling? When will he have his dental procedure? Is he still eating well?

If you can’t monitor and he’s not eating well, take the reduction.
Eating thank God is not an issue. He is great eater. Maybe only when his sugar is low and I feed home every 30min he looks like he has too much but otherwise never a problem.

For now is postponed. The fact his getting low with his numbers means that he’s back to himself I think. He got a shot of the antibiotic on previous visit so maybe that did the job. I’m gonna watch how he is for now. Thanks :cat:

I'm glad he's feeling better. Please just keep an eye on those teeth. If they truly have a problem then it will return. The antibiotics will only get you so far. FYI, the best antibiotic for tooth/mouth bacteria is Antirobe (Clindamycin) tablets. Convenia (if that's what he got) is not as good for that and does have dangers. It sounds like he's doing a lot better now though. I once had a cat who was not a good candidate for anesthesia -- she had tooth problems and we gave her one week of Clindamycin and then three weeks off of it - every month. It worked to keep things under control. Sometimes you need to get their teeth cleaned/dental extractions while they are still able to have anesthesia (heart good, kidneys good, etc.) Good news for your lovely Frodo though!

Thanks a mill for the info about the antirobe. I’m very grateful for all the safe recommendations as I can see there’s more options available not only what they use here. The vet told me the name probably but I forgot and it wasn’t on the invoice I’ve got from them. I’m very concerned about anaesthesia so i asked few times already if it’s safe for him to do the extractions all the time (he had three already also teeth cleaned when he was small) as with the tooth resorption that he has I know the problems with it gonna be coming back so what’s the point to do that every few months or so but on the last visit with extractions (few months ago) the vet said that he is very happy with the X-ray and he removed all his bad teeth and he doesn’t recommend to remove the rest for now as they are really ok. And he is still ok. So we will see how it goes as when I got him to the vet few weeks ago and he got that antibiotic I was thinking if it’s any point as it won’t work probably for what he has. But he seems to be better somehow so I’ll watch him for now. And I will know straight on when things go bad as the main change is his sugar levels going really high. He hides pain very well as lots of cats do. I wouldn’t know if not the change in the readings and then when one of his tooth kinda got loose and he was trying to help himself with the paw and instead hurt his gums and mouth etc it was like a crime scene. Until that he wasn’t acting strange any other way….so when I see his sugar spike I nearly cry as I know it means problems and unfortunately more money gone :arghh: he is high today kinda in 200s all day. I’m gonna update his numbers later on when I do my errands etc. once again thank u for all the help here :bighug::kiss: :cat: .
