Good evening! I picked Lila up from the hospital after work today. They started her back on glargine on 2/27 (from IV Humalin-R). She was on 1 unit for 2 cycles then the IM vet didn't like how she responded to the 2nd cycle so she upped the next dose to 2 units (I know, insert eye roll here. I did my best to convince her to try 1.5 first). As expected, she nearly hypoed and they had to give her a dextrose injection. They dropped her down to 1.5 units this morning and she went pretty low again late in her cycle so they told me to hold her insulin for tonight and resume tomorrow morning at 1 unit.
I'd really like some advice/agreement with completely holding insulin or if you think I should give her a token dose tonight. I entered the data from the Libre readings while she was at the vet into her spreadsheet. I know she is bouncing all over due to multiple factors - stress of hospitalization, insulin change, changes in dosing, low numbers, etc.
Also, does 1 unit seem like a reasonable starting point for her? I know that is where we started before but she was sick so I don't really feel like that counts.
Thanks!
