Max had a rough night. He looked terrible and was very lethargic. I thought he may need fluids but I didn’t have any here as we try not to do that anymore because of his heart. I did manage to get him to eat some Weruva and added extra water to his meal and snacks. I woke up this morning to find him still looking a little off, so when I checked his amps and saw that 515, I made the decision to increase back to 8 units. I know that is a little premature, but he seemed to be getting worse. I have seen this cat before when I didn’t think he would make it so I can’t just sit by and take that chance again. It’s too hard for me to watch. If this is a bounce and he gets too low, I monitor often anyway so I will intervene if I need to. I do have a doctors appointment this afternoon but shouldn’t be gone long. I’m hoping my echocardiogram was okay. I will find out today. I’m feeling some better though, just worried about my Max. I appreciate the advice so much, but I’m the one here looking at him so I had to do something. He seems to feel better now since he’s eaten his breakfast and a snack, all with extra water.

It's good to be proactive, Lori. Nobody knows Max better than you do! Bless his heart. I wonder what was bothering him? Asthma? His tummy (IBD or panc?). You know, my cat Ginger has mild left ventricular hypertrophy and mild left (and right) atrial enlargement. Did they give you anything for that. My vet prescribed Benazepril, but I believe there is absolutely no data so support that it actually does anything to benefit cats with HCM? I'm giving it to her, but I actually put more faith in the heart supplement that I am giving her right now with Co-Q10 in it. I had a cat with HCM who was stable on the supplement for years (of course, she took meds too). As for Ginger, I really am convinced that she is hyperthyroid but the T4 tests don't show it. However, she's hungry all the time and is losing weight. She's had both abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds. I think she has some kind of subclinical hyperthyroid disease. I'm still pursuing options and I'm going to get a consult with a feline thyroid specialist if I can.

Sorry to go one, I'm sure you don't want to hear my woes right now when you are worried about Max ... and your own echocardiogram, right?

Suzanne those cats you have are so lucky and blessed to have you. I learned a long time ago while working as a nurse, then a nurse practitioner, that you can’t only go by the lab tests right in front of you. What the patients tell you (and caregivers tell you), holds a whole lot of weight when it comes to evaluation of a particular problem. I suppose that’s why I appear so stubborn to a lot of vets I’ve had in the past. But I will say, my gut instinct is usually right. If I’m wrong, I will say I am wrong and have to eat my words, but I always stick to my gut feeling. As far as myself, I believe what happened with me is a result of all of the terrible coughing I had when I had covid left me with some pulled muscles and ligaments in my chest. You never know though so I checked with my cardiologist. He wanted to be proactive and do the echo because I had an ablation last year for exercise induced PVCs. I have had some heart valve issues since I was a child. Anyway I hope everything is okay. Thanks for your concern and I hope your kitties are okay too.

I hope things went OK with your doctor today. :bighug:

Poor Max, I hope he can come down overall. Did you get any tests last night after PMPS? Just looking for another reason he went to the black floor this AM.

Thank you. I did get a couple of tests. I just added them. He seems to feel better. My appointment went okay. I just had to go over to the hospital after I left the doctors office to get a few more blood tests done. Depending on the results, if one of them is elevated, I will have to get a CT scan. I hope not. Just too much going on lately that’s worrying me. I hope Max comes down overall too.
