2/16 Max AMPS 327 + 3 168 + 5 69 +6 86 +7 63

Max had a big dive at AMPS +3. He’s also had diarrhea this morning so I hope we can get by with his usual novel protein LC and not have to intervene with honey or higher carb to upset his stomach further.

Went ahead and gave HC since he's down to 69. He had diarrhea earlier, so he may have it again because of the HC. He did get a Cerenia tablet this morning. That seems to also help with the diarrhea. He gets a reduction to 7.5 units tonight. He was supposed to be getting a GI panel, but we scheduled for tomorrow evening because he will need to be fasted for 6 hours and we can't do that today because of his BG. Just letting you know what's going on with Max @Wendy&Neko

Does anyone know if it’s okay to open Budesonide capsules and mix in food? These capsules I got from chewy are bigger than the ones from the vets compounding pharmacy. @Wendy&Neko

I would ask my vet about the Budesonide. I've never tried it.
Max sure knows how to dive. Hope everything goes well tomorrow.
Yes he does. I was going to ask my vet tomorrow anyway but was just wondering because everything I researched says not to open the capsules but other people who have used it on the FB IBD support group say they open it. So I was just wondering but I will ask tomorrow. I will probably just go back to the vets compounding pharmacy because those capsules are so small he can swallow them easily. I didn’t realize he ones from chewy were bigger. They were cheaper at chewy but that’s not doing me any good if I can’t get it into him.

I was also considering a little bit of a BCS to drain the depot a little since he’s going for the lab test tomorrow afternoon but he’s already bounced so I just don’t know. I know the depot has affected him before for up to two cycles after. He’s eating now and I will give him the shot in about 10 minutes.

I decided not to do the BCS tonight and I also went ahead and reordered his Budesonide from the vet’s compounding pharmacy as we’ve done before. Thanks.

I only gave Budesonide in pill form or compounded liquid, not capsules.

I might have tried LC instead of HC today, at least the first time, to see if it would help him surf and stop diving. But then, my girl could surf with just a freeze dried treat given, she was pretty carb sensitive.

I wanted to do that and still want to try it at some point, but in the past, it has taken a lot to raise his BG when he drops too low and he was already dealing with GI upset so I didn’t want to over feed him to make that worse. I chose the HC over that because I thought it would be better to give a little bit of HC instead of a lot of LC. I know the HC causes his tummy to get upset too, but if I’ve fed him a lot of LC then still had to resort to HC, his tummy would have been worse because of all of the food he’s eaten. I just know that from my experience before with him. He has chronic pancreatitis so I know that doesn’t help the digestive situation either. I was trying to take his nadir into consideration as well, but sometimes he nadirs mid day and sometimes it’s later, so I just didn’t know what the lowest point would be. I’m just doing the best I can with what I know about Max. I make mistakes but I’m constantly trying to learn from it all. Even that is difficult because he is so inconsistent. It’s frustrating to me because I can’t fix it, but I’m trying to make it better. One day it’s one thing, the next day it’s something else. I hope to take him this afternoon for his repeat GI panel. Maybe I can try all LC another time hopefully. Thanks for your help.
