Taz decided not to eat dinner or snacks last night and you can tell he just doesn't feel well (although he's alert), so we've initiated pancreatitis protocol. I've began syringe feeding him, and giving cerenia and bupe twice a day. I took today off from work because between 10pm and 4am, I slept on the couch and only got 2 hours of sleep. I feel bad for him because he walks up to the food bowl, maybe eats a couple of bites, then walks away. This morning he was social but you can tell he's scared of eating. :(

Are you going to get ondansetron or cerenia? Ondansetron is the better of the two for nausea but if your vet won’t give you an RX get cerenia.

I have quite a bit of cerenia on hand. I will be putting a call into the vet to see if I can get the other though and to update him on Taz.

I’m sorry he’s not feeling well
Are you giving the cerenia once or twice a day? It is a once a day medication.
I agree ondansetron is better for nausea.

We are giving a half dose twice a day. It seemed to work better for him last month when he wasn't feeling well.

We bought Ketone strips today and I just caught Taz in the potty box but he jumped out as soon as I started walking back there. We have clumping litter and after he peed, there was a puddle where it hadn't soaked in yet. I dipped the strip and tested it, but I don't know if that would give me an accurate reading or if it's tainted if it's been exposed to litter? Can someone clarify for me? I've never tested for ketones before.

Sometimes I had to do the same. If you get the strip dipped before the puddle disappears it’s good.

Cerenia should only be given once a day.

If he has pancreatitis, SubQ fluids would make him feel better. You can also add appetite stimulant like mirataz.

When Sabrina refuses to eat due to pancreas issue, I offer her her old time favorite Fancy Feast Medleys. You can also try Garber baby food, ham flavor and Tiki Cat tuna and pumpkin flavor.

Thank you, i was hoping that eas the case. :) If I read this correctly, it would be a negative?

I tried to get subq fluids last month but the vet didn't think they were necessary. He wasn't in the office yesterday, so I'll call today and see if we can add a few things. It's so hard because he has cysts on his pancreas, and now I'm wondering if those are causing the issue, or if it's pancreatitis, or possibly something worse. It's so hard when they can't talk to you and explain what's wrong. :(

It looks more like the example below the strip, however It may not be the case in person.
I found it easier to see next to a window, in natural daylight. Also, in the presence of ketones the result had a kind of glow to it.
Ketones can develop quickly so keep up with testing daily.
