Dr Elseys or just insulin at it's stopping point

So I have another cat that I have been trying to transition to wet. He does not like it and will only eat a small amount. Not near enough to sustain him. It's going to take some time to get him transitioned.
So I bought a small bag of Dr Elseys chicken to see if he would eat that. He actually liked it and ate it fine, I just gave him a small amt.
I gave Kloey maybe 5 -6 kibbles as treat at her +6.25 BG which was 192. At +7.25 she was up to 325.
During the night, that was around the same time that she was going up.
Could it have been the Dr Elseys or was the insulin stopping working?

That is very common for Vetsulin, but yes food after nadir usually gives them a bit of an extra boost up because the insulin is wearing off. The chicken is low carb though so not bad

If you look at her spreadsheet, she usually nadirs around +4/+5, then it wears off and she climbs quickly. She also was probably bouncing a bit from the low blue

We really have to watch her with the other cats food, that's why we decided to do the Dr Elseys, thinking if she did get his food it wouldn't be that terrible for her.

So if she continually rises after nadir, will she eventually start dropping lower after nadir once correct dose is reached?

So I'm going to answer this about 3 ways because I'm not sure which you're asking -

Nadir is nadir, by definition it is the lowest point of the cycle. So no, from a technical standpoint she can't possibly go lower after nadir

Now, nadirs can and do move. So if you look, you can see some days it's +4, some days it's +5, etc.

Generally when you're on the right insulin and the right dose, it's a long gentle drop to nadir, and a long gentle rise back up. Sometimes this does naturally push nadir a bit later. Unfortunately with Vetsulin, that's rare just because of the way it works. Shes not doing too horribly on it, but we'll keep an eye on. Ideally the insulin will "last" the full 12 hours (we call that direction) but that's a little rare with Vetsulin. It usually starts to wear off close to +8 to +10.

No problem! Her numbers will start to come down overall, that does often help duration. Just with the duration she's getting now, I still don't quite see it stretching the full 12 hours. I could be wrong!
