Taz has been slowly climbing in numbers and was in the 400s yesterday. We increased Taz's insulin by .25 (1.25) last night and his BG is currently at 163. He hasn't been this low before insulin in a while, and with increasing the dose, I don't know what to do. He's currently eating and I'm getting ready to give insulin. Do I still give him the new 1.25 dose with him being this low?

Added more at bottom.

If you can monitor, it is a safe number to give insulin. With SLGS you can shoot any number over 90 and with TR over 50 - on a human meter.

So give the new dose?
Yes. He hasn't earned a reduction. Start with a test at +2 and take it from there.

BTW you've shot these numbers before. The size of the dose does not affect a decision of whether to shoot or not if the dose is a good dose for the cat.

I gave insulin but I only gave 1 unit. I panicked because we have a meeting at noon (its 8:40 right now) and won't be home around his +3 to +4.5.

I seriously did not expect him to be this low this morning. I felt confident to give 1 unit, but I was scared about the additional .25 with it bringing his number down so much over night and me not being here in a couple of hours to watch him.

I will be sure to get a +2 reading. We got a couple of readings last night and I'll get a couple more tonight during his PM cycle. I hate to think what my blood pressure has been over the past month and a half. Thank you for the quick help. I greatly appreciate it. You guys are truly amazing!

I'm watching on camera, and Taz keeps going to his food dish. The auto feeder hasn't changed for him yet, and when he sees there's no food, he goes to the water dish and drinks. It's been 4 times in the last hour. I haven't seen him act like this for a couple of weeks. Is it possibly from his high numbers yesterday?

The only other thing I've noticed is that he has been kind of constipated...he goes daily but he's had large hard chunks, rather than stinky normal poop. I started him on miralax a couple of days ago, and he had healthy poops last night and today. I'm wondering if some of his not feeling good has been because of that. He's been very alert/active, hungry, and thirsty today.

Taz was active most of the morning, then snoozed all afternoon. At dinner time, he wasn't very hungry and only ate maybe a third of his normal amount. I went ahead and gave him 1.25 units and some Bupe. He seems very uncomfortable. Was it ok to give him the insulin?
