Question regarding feeding and ketones

So Kloey had ketones when diagnosed. We are now 6 days no ketones. How long do you need to feed as much as she wants after having ketones?
How long do I check ketones?
We dropped her insulin last night and today due to the low readings? Now she is back in the 400s. Is this bouncing? I feel like I am shooting a dead horse. I guess at least she is negative for ketones.

She most likely is bouncing. I always free feed as much as my cat wanted except two hours prior to a preshot test. Is your cat a good weight? I'd probably check a couple times a week for a while, esp while she's still getting high numbers. Also check if her behavior or mood seems off.

I would keep feeding her as much as her wants as long as she isn’t getting fat.
That is really good no ketones for 6 days. I would keep checking for ketones a couple of times a week as long as she is in higher numbers and if any appear, increase the number of tests.
Looks like bouncing to me. Now that the ketones are in the rear vision mirror, have you thought about swapping to a better insulin such as Lantus or Prozinc?
I think you would get better duration as they are longer lasting insulins and hopefully better numbers generally.

She weighs 13.5lbs. Lost 2 pounds before diagnosis. She should be getting around 270 cal/ day per vet. Should I shoot for that calorie amount? She eats very good now. She had not been eating before diagnosis. She would prob eat every 2 hours if I let her. But she would be way over calories. I know we were trying to get ketones down by letting her eat what ever she would. But now that they are down should I cut her back some?
So if she is bouncing should that stop after a few days and be able to get a better picture of what this dose is doing for her?

You can try cutting back a little on the food and see how she goes.
Bounces can last from 1 to 6 cycles. When she comes off the bounce we should be able to see if the dose is enough or not.

I have to leave her for work tomorrow. I leave at 515a husband at 7. He will not do shot. So I will give before I leave. He is going to give her about a teaspoon of 7% carb food with 1 portion of Sheba. And he will leave out a 2 portion of Sheba frozen. It should be thawed by +4 or +5. I won't be home till 5pm. I am worried if she will be ok. This is the first day she will be here all day. Any advice?

What % of carbs is the Sheba? It would’t hurt to leave out a portion of the 7% food for her to have mid cycle.
Do you have anyone who can pop in to see how she is going during the day?
Have you thought about an automatic timed feeder where you can place the food and have it open at certain times?
I used to hate to leave Sheba for the day too so I understand. But many people do. You have to go to work. It was good you had the green numbers yesterday and could adjust the dose.

Sheba is about 3%. She just got to where she would only eat small portion of fancy feast. So I've been around the block with different foods. She loves the sheba.
No don't have anyone to check in. I have tested just by going out for short times and she has done fine. But tomorrow is all day. I only work one or two days a week so it is not often.
I may have him leave some of the higher carb for midday also. I do have another cat also that I'm trying to transition but he's not a huge fan of the wet yet. So I think it is gonna be ok. I'm just a huge worrier. I've thought about a timed feeder. But I worried it would not open, then she wouldn't eat at all. Lol Oh the struggles. Thanks for your advice.

I think we all worry when we have to go out. Especially in the beginning.
If you are worried about a timed feeder, I would use it while you are home for a few weeks so you can see it is reliable. My Sheba would eat everything I left out straight away so I had to rely of a feeder where it would open at certain hours. If Kloey is not like that you might be fine with what you are doing.

I may try that and test it for a week or so while I'm home. I don't think she will eat the food that is frozen until it thaws. I guess we'll see tomorrow. I've been back and forth about getting low carb dry but I would rather not do that.

Wet food is much better generally for all cats. Would your other kitty eat the low carb dry if it was out? I would try using wet food first. You know the low carb dry is there if nothing else works when you work.

I haven't tried the low carb dry yet because I really want to go wet with both of them. But my boy kitty is a dryaholic. He is starting to eat wet a little bit. So we are a work in progress. Hopefully he will adjust. I am just feeding him dry morning and evening now to try to transition him and I don't want to leave it out for Kloey to get into. So he has been eating some wet during the day. I guess he is realizing that's what he has to eat or starve.
