We have had a crazy day. Started a bit defeated seeing a 142 this morning. I know it's probably due to a bounce from the low yesterday, but still. Gave him his drop dose and went back to bed. Checked him at +4 and he was 74. A 1/2 hour later the low glucose alarm starts sounding and he's 45, then 40, then LO. Give him food and a bit of syrup which shoots him up to 189. He's come back down to 92 at +8.

Started the day thinking he wouldn't get off insulin and now I'm feeling more hopeful, but exhausted.

Hmm, looks like Wesson is doing OK on the drop dose. :D I suspect you might not need as much syrup next time.

Any chance you have data on what sort of numbers Wesson liked before he became diabetic? I have a non diabetic that likes the 40's.

Didn't give him much, just a little drizzle on a tsp of food. Numbers were always normal before, I'll see if I can find some numbers. Do you think that maybe he had a bout of pancreatitis that caused this? We originally went to the vet due to diarrhea/vomiting about a month before the diabetes diagnosis.

So, keep doing the drop dose for tonight? I guess we want to see what he does once the .1 is out of his system right? He's at 81 PMPS

For the 30's, it's strongly recommended to do a reduction. I'd be tempted to skip tonight, which has the benefit of draining the depot.
 
Wow! What a rollercoaster of a day! Don't be discouraged! He started off the 0.10U dose with yellows and mid/high blues. It's just bouncing.
He's looking very good!
 
Even with the skip, the depot will still be at play and affect the first part of the cycle, so get a couple of tests and feed to prevent drops.
You may not need to use higher carbs sine you have skipped. :-)

Yes, definately will. Hopefully we have an uneventful night. Staying home from my son's race tomorrow just to be safe because I'm going to a bridal shower in the afternoon and don't want to leave him all day.

You can always feed slightly higher carbs - like a mix of LC and MC - if necessary - to keep him safe. The skip would have also drained the depot. He might just run a little higher tomorrow - bounce + skip. See how it goes and take a call.

I may try that if i could be home late afternoon, but since I can't, I will have hubby live stream the race for me and I can keep an eye on Wessie.
