I thought today might be the day. He was 66 and 5 minutes later he was 49. Gave him MC plus a few drops of syrup which got him back up to 68 (so far). Hopefully he won't go too high now. So, we are officially on 1 drop tonight!!!!!

Congrats on the reduction! I thought the drop below 50 would come before 7 days in green! :-)

To measure a drop dose, push the plunger of the empty syringe in fully, keep it pressed and insert in the pen. Let go of the pressure on the plunger and it will draw a drop. When you insert the needle into Wesson, push the plunger and count to 10 if he will let you.

Did it! I always count to 10, Wesson does not notice a bit, he's too busy with his treat. It's hard to tell if anything is in the syringe. I practiced first and shot into a paper towel to see how much it is and it's just a drop. Hopefully his low today and then going high from the syrup does not cause a problem. He's higher tonight that he has been lately but he's been so flat the other days. I guess we will see.

Just saw that he got syrup! We usually reach for syrup only when HC is not enough to bring the numbers up or if they have dropped too low, very early in the cycle. Later in the cycle, you may not need even HC to bring him up from the high 40s.

He came down nicely though and might bounce a little, but it should pass very soon. The higher depot is still at play, so that will help as well.

He just dropped so fast from 66 to 49 and I didn't catch it early. I don't really have a HC. The gravy food I have is a MC, so I added just a few drops of syrup. He seems to have settled now at 90.

Is there still a potential for him to drop low once the depot is depleted on the .1 dose and he is just on the drop dose? Or should I expect him to just stay relatively flat?

If he decides he doesn't need even a drop of insulin, he could drop below 50. You may see a repeat of what he did on 0.1U which is to flatten out and give you all green for a few cycles/days and then drop below 50. Or stay a week in all green which would mean he is ready for an OTJ trial.

Some cats tend to run lower even when not on insulin. We've had cats in the 30s and 40s when OTJ or during an OTJ trial. In those cases, you need not worry about the low numbers since they are not on insulin.

Ok, that makes sense.

So, we are at +2.5 and at 69. I thought were done for today. Time for some LC.
