My kitty's name is Simba and he's 8 years old. He was diagnosed with diabetes about 3 years ago, and we've not been able to stabilize it yet. He recently ended up in ICU for 5 night due to 10+ seizures. We've been to a few vets in the area, but I think it's time we find a specialist. Does anyone have any advice on feline diabetes care in the Chicago area?

Also any thoughts on Libre? I am hesitant to get it because I don't think that Simba will leave it alone. He's very much so cooperative when we test via his ear, but the vet wants to be able to see his levels at all times.
I really appreciate any and all advice!

Hi Anna
Here is a link helping us to help you link. If you noticed, our members have some basic information about their cat's in their signature. This helps us to not pester you by asking the same questions (your cat's name, insulin type, date of diagnosis, etc.) repeatedly. We also have a link to our spreadsheet in our signature. We are very numbers driven. The spreadsheet is a record of your cat's progress. By linking it in your signature, we can follow along and provide feedback should you need the help.

If you need help with your signature and spreadsheet just ask , we have a member who will help you

You might want to add to your title new member and looking for a vet in Chicago area
Go to the right it says Thread Tools tap that , you will see Edit Title , Edit your title and hit save

THANK YOU for the recommendations! :)

I have used the Libre on my cat and absolutely loved it. So much easier then manually testing his blood sugar. But yah, the problem is keeping it on long enough. The first one he had lasted 7 days and the second 9 days.

Here are some links posted about using the Libre

I saw somewhere that I could get a free one so maybe worth a try... Thanks for the links!! :)

If the sensor fails early you can call the company and depending on the error message they will send you a replacement. I got a free one that way. I wouldn't mention it was on a cat though.:p.

Hi Anna and Simba and welcome to the forum.
Do you know what caused the seizures? Was it from a hypo?
Are you home testing the blood glucose? Or is looking at a libre your first step in home testing?

I’ll give you a link I case you might like to set up a spreadsheet to put in your data. This link also has a link to the signature that will tell us all about Simba and also a link to the hypo kit HELP US HELP YOU

If you are hometestkng and putting the data into the SS we can help you get Simba regulated.

The VCA Cat Hospital of Chicago (well, it was Cat Hospital of Chicago when I lived there) is where I took Gabby when I lived there. They had a fire and became part of the VCA franchise. It's still the same vets. They are very knowledgeable. Several of my friends have been using the practice for years.
