No insulin at all since AM 1/29!
No dry food overnight and that made a big difference.
going to check out the “crunch” suggestions today to order. She sometimes stares at the bowl :(
Still having a bit of trouble with sticking her but nothing like I was before I came to you all. Her little ears are kinda bruised and that makes me feel sad. I hope that gets better.

If you are using a lancing device to poke her, you may also want to see if a lower depth helps reduce the bruising.

Are you avoiding the marginal vein when poking? Poking the marginal vein can also cause bruising.

From the Testing and Shooting Tips sticky:
Ear Care
Since our kitties must endure so many tests, what are some ways to take care of the ears?
  • Hold a wet, cool baby washcloth on the poke site immediately after the test to prevent bruising.
  • Put Emla cream on the test sites after each test. It only takes a tiny dab and you can wipe it off before the next test. Emla cream requires a prescription from your vet. Neosporin with has been found to contain a toxin to cats, polymixin and should be avoided.
  • You can purchase Ledum 30C homeopathic remedy at any health food store. Dissolve one tablet in a small bottle of pure water and then apply one or two drops to each ear every day. Ledum is great for puncture wounds.

Ahh ok perhaps I am hitting the vein. Her little ears are so thin. I hold a cotton pad behind it when I do it. I use the alternate site lancets I think 26gauge from reli on, very tiny. No device, just the actual lancet itself.

I poked free hand and a needle because that’s how my vet likes to do it and I got blood every time. The 26g lancet should work.

That’s great to see green this morning! :D

I get an error message when I try to see your spreadsheet. Never mind it worked the third time.

The ss says 85 but your subject says 105.

whoops! Thanks for letting me know. I think I fixed it. Should be 105. Last night was 93.

it is much easier than using that weird spring activated thing I had. That thing scared me haha. The 26g is very small she doesn’t hate me but I think I just have to do better not hitting the wrong spot.

Actually, the 26G is a thicker lancet. But its's good when you start testing since you poke a larger hole and get more blood. As her ear "learns" to bleed, you can move to a higher gauge.
The higher the gauge, the thinner the needle / lancet. So 31G is thinner than 26G.

oh! Ok I didn’t realize. It said thin on the box haha I think that is the only one I could find in the “alternate test site” criteria at my Walmart location. Perhaps I can look again at another size when it’s time to get another box, I have 100. there’s so much to learn!

You don’t need to test until PMBG. I forgot to tell you it’s AMBG and PMBG when you don’t shoot. That’s because ps stands for preshot.

Ok thank you for letting me know! she will be happy with the one less stick I’m sure!

I hope it continues! :) especially now that the dry is gone.
I cannot imagine how she must’ve been feeling with all that insulin I was giving her :(
I’ve been apologizing to her so much.
Thanking God I found you all.

Pre dinner we were at 116
She eats a little, walks away and stares at the place where dry food used to be :(
I don’t understand the trends

i did notice perhaps she wasn’t drinking as much water as she did when I was giving insulin. Is that typical?
I find that Bandit drinks a lot of water when she is high, as well as when she is low. It's possible Chloe was drinking when she was dropping low as well as when she was bouncing high from the lows. Maybe the change to an all wet diet has also reduced her thirst?

Did she eat in the 2-3 hour window before this test?

Can you get a test before bed to see if she is back in green?

My two are fed raw and one drinks a tiny amount and the other I have never seen drink water.
Hopefully the freeze dried treats will be able to take the place of the kibble. Do you think she is eating enough food to maintain her weight? Do you have a digital baby scale to weigh her? Is she at her ideal weight or too thin or too fluffy ?

She might have snuck a little bite of wet food. I pulled it up but perhaps not as early as I should. Yes I’ll get a test before bed prayers for a green! is it ok to leave food out overnight too?
As far I remember if I understood correctly from tiffmaxee, Chloe can eat except pull up the bowl 2 hours before testing.

She can free feed. As long as she’s not getting insulin she can eat even during the two hour window if you won’t be home. Just try and get a test 3-4 hours after she eats if the first test of the day is blue. I know you can’t when you are at work but get one whenever possible. We still aren’t sure if she will need a tiny bit of insulin support.

oh maybe that is the case, wet food has more moisture

oh wow, ok I won’t panic then if you say that about water.
I think she’s eating enough. I think she’s just pouting a little over the dry food. I was also going to get more variety of flavors of ff and wow the shelves are empty :( Her weight is good. She’s about 13.6 lb the last time I weighed her which was last week, however that was with me holding her and subtracting my weight which I know isn’t the greatest… but that’s all I could do.
I should have some kibble options for her by the end of the week. Hopefully she will accept that… or maybe eat more wet food.

Sounds good. You can also add a litt,e water to the wet food. I do that with the raw so it isn’t so cold pot of the fridge although that doesn’t seem to bother my two foodies.

Ok great thanks, good news. Sometimes I’ll be working 3 days home other 2 days weekly. Either way I’ll be home a few days.

She wanted to play with laser pointer earlier and she was running around a few mins, she played with a few toys and even ran down the stairs. She’s very alert. I haven’t seen her this way in a long time. I know she hates the sticks, but I think she feels better.

We ask about the 5 p’s because there is more than bg. Preening, peeing, playing, pooping, and purring. Sounds like she’s a 5/5. :D

I like that! I think so:)
You’re right it’s more than just the number, how she is feeling is important!
