What to know about switching to lantus?

My cats currently on prozinc, but I don’t feel like I’ve been seeing good control. Her spreadsheet is not up to date, I have her info it’s just in another app and I haven’t put it up yet due to having health issues myself lately. She’s mostly been high and flat, not seeing the insulin take her down that much. Can the bottle of prozinc, tank on efficiency after awhile? I don’t know if I should just get a new vial or switch her over, but I don’t feel like her numbers were ever that great on prozinc. I want to learn about the differences between that and lantus, how long does one vial last, what else should I know and consider before asking her vet to make the switch? I don’t know too much about lantus other than I think dosing times are stricter right?

Prozinc is an in and out insulin. Which means one dose does not effect the next.
Lantus is a depot insulin and as the depot fills, one dose can effect the next dose. Read about depot insulins below.
DEPOT INSULIN

Looking at your SS. I would suggest you you start to do testing in the pm cycle as well as the am cycle. At the moment we don’t know what is happening during the pm Cycle at all. Try and get a before bed test in every night.
Also if you can get at least one test in each am cycle if possible.
You aren’t following the SLGS properly and doing increases when needed, and you are decreasing when there is no need to do so.
I think if you follow the SLGS method properly, you will get a better result.

Yeah I went back over the slgs method and realized that I was making mistakes. I’ve been trying to do better with it. The issue is that I’m just seeing flatlines. Does prozinc lose efficiency? Should I just get a new bottle

How long since you bought the Prozinc? If it is around 6 months old it could be losing efficiency.
Okay thank you, it’s around 5 months, the first few months I had it stored in the side drawer of the fridge which I learned is the worst place to store it though. I just bought a new bottle online. Was hoping to learn more about lantus so I could weigh my options a little more. But it’s okay I’ll try to learn in the next 6 months or so and make that decision next time around.
