Callipers changing #s

Hi all
I habe been trying to use the 4" callipers from Harbor Freight. Sometimes i. Most time when i open them to get to the 2.8mm i need, it gets to almost 2 then jumps to a diff reading (either like 6mm or it will go negative) am i opening them up wrong? It is extremely annoying and takes forever for me to get it where i need.
Any suggestions or ideas of how to correctly open them. I go as slow as possible opening them

Can you tighten your calipers? I just locked in my measurement and left it there. I did turn it on to make sure it didn't change by accident but otherwise left it locked until I needed to adjust dose up or down. FWIW, anytime I set a dose and then locked it, it did go down in measurement slightly so I'd start a tenth or so above my measurement and then tighten (so when I tightened it was at the right measurement). Hope that helps a little bit.
 
thanks guys! i may need a dif one or i can try n find a place that i can leave them. civie mag loves to get into EVERYTHING, so i was a bit stressed. i really need a SPOT she cannot reach!
Kath im looking up urs now. i have the 2x galsses, the syringe and yhe callipers...i look like a freaking psycho librarian, architect, who wants to inject some meds....lol...just kinda crazy

Yup, I've got the insane cat lady with the calipers and magnifiers not to mention lightbox too. :p
