Dosing question

I have a question…. I was talking to a customer the other night at work who has a cat with diabetes. She said that her vet has her cat on a sliding scale dose, so to speak. Always in a 1 full unit range. If her cat is high , she gives a full dose ( I think she said 2 Units) and if she is lower numbers, she gives 1.5.
i know that’s definitely not what we do here but I wondered why? Does that hurt the cat? In theory it made sense. I think that’s what human diabetics do? i follow SLGS with Jade and not looking to change, just curious.

With a non-depot insulin like ProZinc, a sliding scale is sometimes used.

If she uses Lantus, she's not dosing properly -- or her vet doesn't know the difference between Lantus and shorter acting insulins. If you keep changing the dose from shot to shot, you never give the depot a chance to stabilize and the result is wonky numbers. Lantus needs at least 3 days for the depot to stabilize after a dose change (unless a reduction is indicated).
