So, after this no pooping issue with Mouse, which still isn't fully resolved, I need a new food. Like right now! I noticed this a.m. that one of my other cats is also having a hard time pooping. What on earth? I want to eventually get them on raw but that's going to take some time to switch them over. I need to get something today. Something I can grab at Pet smart today. Kahlua seems to do fine on the Blue Buffalo, but the other 2 have had nothing but problems. So.....ideas for low carb, great for pooping and UTI issues???????

Fancy Feast is the usual standard food. Not the best quality but low in carbs and neither of my two sugar cats ever got plugged up.
Daniel has megacolon, he's always getting plugged up and sometimes has a rock hard little turd stuck in his bum, very painful. We give him PEG/Restoralax/Polyethylene glycol in probiotic yogurt once a week, he'll be on this for the rest of his life. Cats are lactose intolerant so keep the yogurt to a minimum. It's the only way to get it in him, putting it in food doesn't work.

If you use something like Bulgarian or Greek yogurt pretty much all of the lactose has been consumed by the beneficial bacteria, hence the sour taste. . But, of course, your kitty has to like it. A lot of my cats like these two types of yogurt- funny though how they seem to have a preference, with some liking Greek and others preferring Bulgarian.

Okay wait… before you go out and buy new food, can you just go to the store and pick up some psyllium husks? Health food store will have pure psyllium seed husks for fiber. That way you don’t have to change their food too abruptly and cause additional GI upset without doing a gradual transition.

You probably need to start adding in some probiotics too… not today necessarily as you have a lot to deal with right now. Proviable DC is a good one that is reasonably priced compared to some others. Chewy sells it. I actually had a very good response using that probiotic in my IBD/SCL cat. Visbiome is very good and comes highly recommended, but it is more expensive. Proviable is very good. I seem to recall reading to not purchase from Amazon because of fake product though?

Having said all that, a lot of the “hairball control” formula food contain added fiber. I’m trying to come up with something!

And some people have had luck giving those petroleum jelly based hairball control gels to their cats with constipation. Like Laxatone. Just don’t give to your diabetic kitty as most contain corn syrup (I once ordered one from Amazon that was sugar free.). I figured you would not do this since he’s not the one with the constipation problem, but I just thought I would mention it.

That's where Mouse is.....it's stuck in her pelvic area. No megacolon, thank God. But, she hurts.

I have some probiitics. It seems I'm buying different ones all the time. Crazy. As for the pysillium.....would Walgreens have it? We don't have a health food store that I know of. For this morning I just fed their old food. It has too many carbs, but they ate it for years without a single issue.

Look for plain Metamucil with no flavor or sugar added. Same thing.

But, she hurts
It hurts just to look at it. I've almost always got some transdermal BUPE around, it's the only thing that makes Daniel's life livable when he gets into this state. Cats and dogs will tolerate a lot of pain but other than surgery on an old cat this is my only option. He'll go a month as a normal cat, then one morning you step on what feels like a rock. It's not his food, something he gets into or other meds that cause this, the poor guy just has an abnormal digestive tract.

They always try to add sugar
Why they do this is a mystery. Everything from Big Macs to BBQ sauce to salad dressing is loaded with sugar. It's almost impossible to avoid and just so stupid. One of the more common sugar substitutes is deadly to dogs, it just never ends.

I think it depends on the raw diet, but raw made my cat constipated. I think it has to do with the amount of bone in the food. I used Stella and Chewy and it had bone in it. So watch out for that if you are going to try raw.
