I am not testing Joe much at all. Just letting him be. He is doing great. Gaining weight, good stools, etc. I have not felt like it was worth pestering him. My question is:
Do I need to withhold two hours before his insulin shot if I am not testing?

Thanks Janet. I am crossing my fingers and thanking GOD that Joe is doing well as my dog, 13.5 years old is unwell now and the focus of my time

Hi Susan, did you recover from surgery ok? So happy to hear good news about Joe.
I'm sorry about your dog. I didn't realize you had a dog. What's their name?
Just do the best you can, and maybe giving Joe a couple more pokies now and then will temporarily distract you from doggo troubles. ;)

Daphne. Older girl and the sweetest. She helps me foster kittens. She loves them and will sit still and let them crawl all over her until they know she is safe to play with. I have been so caught up in Joes troubles that the drooling all over the floor went, not unnoticed exactly, but I did not get alarmed and do anything until the breath got so bad it would make you vacate a room. We went for a dental cleaning and the mass was discovered.

I would strongly advise you to please test before every shot. You may think he is fine but things can change quickly. Only recently we had someone who thought they didn’t need to test any more and the cat developed a hypo.

Aww Daphne looks like a sweetheart. What a good girl, socializing the kittens. I hope she’s not in too much pain.
I agree, didn’t realize you weren’t testing before shots. At least test then, you never know, right?
Especially since you raised his dose, don’t know how he is reacting to that with no data.

I tested him last night 2 hours before dinner 169. two hours later 189. Gave shot and dinner. He was super grumpy at getting stuck.

Good job! Way better than that red you got before.
Grumpy Joe is just going to have to deal with it! :DMom is keeping him safe.

YAY. I forgot to post the most awesome of awesome news. Daphne does not have cancer she has gingivitis and it caused scar tissue to form over her teeth. The vet was shocked because he was 90% sure it was cancer based on how it looked. I asked for a copy of the Pathology report so I could read it myself.
She will have to get her teeth cleaned yearly now and I am wiping them down every couple of days. And she is letting me.

Oh Susan, I'm so happy to hear that!! Did they take a second look, or what happened? I bet she's letting you, she looks like the best dog ever, with the sweetest temperament. (Can you tell I want a dog?) Great news!
