Taz only ate 1/4 of a can for dinner last night, so I only gave him 1 unit of insulin at 8pm. I left 1/3 can of food out for him and he ate it between midnight and 2am.

This morning his glucose was 506. He wanted to eat, but only licked it a little and then walked away. I blended him some friskies pate with water, and force fed him a syringe of it. He acts like eating hurts his mouth, so I'm scared that even if/when the pancreatitis is healed, we're still going to have a problem with him not wanting to eat. Maybe the stress of painful eating caused it in the first place. :(

Between shoving pills down him, pricking his ear, and now force feeding him, he's avoiding me at all costs.

I see Bhooma gave excellent advice about not needing to have them eat their full meal before shooting. Next time, especially while he's in such high numbers, you should be fine giving insulin.

I also see that Elise mentioned ondansetron, it's a way better medication for handling nausea in cats. One of the reasons I preferred buprenorphine over gabapentin for pain, is that it was an oral medicine you just needed to squirt on their gums/side of mouth. I was all about easiest way to get meds in my girl. She taught me to up my pilling game, in spite of all I'd learned working at the local shelter!

Has the vet ever made any comments on how Taz's teeth are? Any chance he needs a dental? For short periods of time you can try something like an all meat babyfood. It's easier to eat and most cats love it, though it's not a complete meal so not good for long term. And there are the Tiki Cat Velvet Mousse's too.

I am having the hardest time squirting the Bupe against the gum lines. I feel like I'm wearing half of it by the time I'm done.

The vet was really busy and they fit us in, so he did an initial exam and not much else. He seemed more concerned with getting the pancreatitis healed before worrying about everything else. The ER hospital didn't have a machine to do dental xrays.

We are syringe feeding him now and he seems to be happier with food on his tummy. He does have a bit of diarrhea now though, which I don't think he's ever had before (definately not in the last several years). I don't know if it's from the medication (cerenia, bupe, amoxiclav, omeprazole) or what. I've stub him at the water bowl a couple of times but it seems like normal drinking. He's not attacking it.

I squirted the bupe mostly against the upper inner cheek between, bigger target.

Are you giving him any probiotics? Antibiotics can ruin the tummy flora, making them not feel good. Give the probiotics two hours apart from the antibiotic. Human grade probiotics are fine. Amoxiclav is my bet for diarrhea. Bupe can cause constipation.

I haven't given any probiotics. I'll have to see if we have any. Thank you for the suggestion.

@Wendy&Neko @Bandit's Mom Is this normal? Taz's PMPS is lower than at his +6 reading. This is his readings for the day....

AMPS - 506
+2 hours 50 minutes later - 412
+6 - 394
PMPS - 380
+2 - 200

I gave him his pain meds and cerenia in some cheese, at 5:50. It's 8:10 now and he's about to get 2 units of Lantus. I wanted to make sure there were 2 hours between the cheese and his PM reading.

Remember what I said about there being a 15-20% variance in meter readings? He has been flat from +2 to PMPS. :-)
It looks like the PM cycle will be an active one. Can you get a test at +4?

I just took a +5.5 and he's at 87. I'm kind of freaked out because I didn't expect him to be this low. We're going to take it again in an hour.

87 is within the normal range of blood sugar for a cat. Feed him a little food - even a tsp and yes, test in an hour.
