I have been reading the Benefits of Moringa for lowering glucose levels in diabetics (some articles on use with diabetic pets) and was wondering if anyone here is using it. I bought some capsules from Vitacost when I made my last b12 order but am nervous to give them to Juggie as I can’t really find any info on how much to give a cat.

I've been a member here since 2009 and I can't recall anyone giving Moringa to their cat. I also work with human diabetics and don't know if anyone takes Moringa -- or if they do, it's not in their medical records.

If I can offer an observation, you're holding Juggie's doses too long. He's been at 2.0u for almost a month with his lowest number being a 92. With SLGS, you need to evaluate the effectiveness of the dose every week. Are you comfortable with sticking more closely to the SLGS guidelines and increasing your cat's dose?

If you're looking for more guidance with Lantus, you're more than welcome to post on the Lantus board.

I had never heard of moringa--just googled it. Sounds a lot like bitter melon or bitter gourd--traditional Chinese medicine doctors recommend it for human glucose control, and I do know of one person who ate it every day and said it helped her diabetes. I have eaten bitter melon, it lives up to its name so I wouldn't give it to my cats. :P I'd work on getting to a better dose of Lantus as Sienne suggests instead. I have never heard of a supplement purporting to help with glycemic control being better for a cat's glucose levels than insulin, low carb food and some good exercise.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I plan to talk with my vet who is into holistic medicine and see their thoughts, just thought I’d ask here too In case anyone has used it.

I am quite literally doing the best I can. It’s not a matter of being comfortable sticking more closely to it it’s a matter of not being home to test more often and do curves before any increase. Actually today I am in midst of a curve as I am finally on a much needed work break.

Thank you. I am already a member on the Lantus board and am very grateful for all the help offered there. :)

sorry if I came across wrong, I in no way meant that it would be a replacement or better than insulin, lc food and exercise. I was just curious as I had read some things on use with diabetic cats and have seen it on chewy as well. I really am doing the best I can trying to get Juggie regulated but I am just one person who works 8-10 hour days and can not mess around with his dosage without curves and I just haven’t been home to do that.

It might be helpful to put something in your signature about a crazy long work schedule. Otherwise, there are people like me who will ask about how your dosing and I'm certain it gets tiresome.

It sounds like your vet may be a good resource if she's holistically trained. @Marje and Gracie has a holistic vet although I've never heard her mention Moringa.

I can try to rearrange but with the 300 character limit and the Lantus boards requested specific stuff to be in it I think I’m already maxed out for signature space. Although I posted here for info on Moringa I do still appreciate that you also reached out with dosing suggestions. It’s a sign of how helpful and caring everyone is here :)

i’m hoping she will have the answers of if it’s useful or not

Moringa is not something my holistic vet used. We tried Gymnema but it didn’t work.
Thanks, I’m not seeing a lot of info out there and what I do find isn’t super reliable like medical journals or anything like that so I was so curious.
