Max continues with an upset stomach. I have a call in to the vet's office. Could the S. Boulardii be making it worse? It seems that way and I'm doing the stop diarrhea way mentioned on Food Fur Life website. He had a huge dive from AMPS to +4. These ups and downs and managing the diarrhea are difficult to manage because it seems like whatever he eats goes right through him. Not to mention throwing asthma in the mix. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm way too busy right now with everything else to have all of this going on. I feel so bad for Max and don't know what else to do.

The S. Boulardii will not make diarrhea worse. If he has a stomach bug, he may need Flagyl (Metronidazole). Has there been any food change that could be upsetting his stomach?

No food changes. He has just completed 7 days of Metronidazole. I just gave him HC. (Weruva Grandma’s chicken soup) No telling what that will do to his stomach. He had MC before. He’s now down to 68. So I guess he’s getting a reduction to 9? @Bandit's Mom

oh and that didn't help!

Yes!
Yes it did help, but it has come right back after a few days! I do know he has IBD and pancreatitis, so this has happened before. He goes from diarrhea to constipation. I am waiting for the vet to call me back. Now since he's dropping though, I can't leave him to go to the vet and pick up whatever she wants him to have! I am literally going crazy.

They didn't test his stool because I guess they assumed it's because of his IBD. He has an appointment coming up in January.

That’s likely it since metronidazole didn’t help. It’s likely to be a reaction to something in the food and I guess in the hc I would think
Yes, I've tried different kinds of HC and MC before but most had gravy and that definitely upsets his stomach. Wendy suggested the Weruva Grandma's Chicken soup. So far that hasn't gone through him, so maybe he can eat this one without problems. For his MC I gave him his regular Weruva with a drop of honey.

That’s what he eats. I changed from FF to Weruva a few months ago. He has done well on them until now since the diarrhea started.
So it's most likely something else added. You can stop all supplements, see if he gets back to normal. If he does, gradually add back in maybe the Visbiome.

I'm telling you though. When I need to get cats back on track fast, I used the BeneBac Plus gel that I order from Amazon (if I need it really fast) or chewy. But nothing is going to be fast now. I can't remember if I've recommended this before. It's palatable, works great on diarrhea. I probably have because I recommend this to everyone who has a cat with diarrhea problems. Of course, if your kitty has IBD or SCL, it's gonna take more than any probiotic to help them (prednisone) so I'm not saying it's a panacea, but it is really good stuff and works fast.

My friend who is a bottle feeding kitten guru... who taught me how to care for bottle babies and keep them alive recommended this to me.

Yes I have that also. I’m telling you I’ve tried everything. It’s his IBD, I’m pretty sure. We’ve been through this before.

Weruva Paw Lickin' chicken is pretty much breast meat. Most cats like it. Very low calorie though. Just breast meat. Low carb of course. it's also shredded so they actually need to chew it (all my cats will eat it and that's a lot of cats :-) )

Yes. Like I was saying, if it's IBD or worse then that's a whole different ballgame. Poor Max. Has he taken Presnisolone before for the IBD? I'm assuming he's been ultrasounded before for this? Sorry if you told me/us before.

Wendy suggested the Weruva Grandma's Chicken soup.

Quick question… I ran into an issue with Gus last night where he dropped under 50 and he would not eat his HC food was tough to get him to eat his MC too (I think I turned him into a health nut :joyful:). We were able to make it work but want something on hand for a possible next time… Is the Weruva Grandma’s chicken soup HC? Couldn’t find it on Dr. Lisa’s list!

Hope that you’re able to figure out what’s up with Max and his tummy issues :bighug:

Yes it is high carb. Someone here recommended it to me for HC because Max has a lot of problems with diarrhea… with gravy based foods. I am not certain of the carb % though. At first Max wouldn’t eat it but he ate it today. @Wendy&Neko Thanks so much!

Thank you, he just puts his nose up to that thick gravy in FF gravy lovers or ‘in gravies’. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with runny poops. I must say though, you sure have a handsome boy :cat:

Thank you so much! I love this cat so much! He’s really a good boy, but has so many health issues. There’s no telling how much money I’ve spent on him lol. I just want him to feel better. I hope your kitty likes the Grandmas chicken soup. Max can be quite picky too and wouldn’t even look at it the first time I tried to give it to him, but today he ate every bit of it and so far he hasn’t had diarrhea from it! Happy New Year to you!

The things we do for the ones we love <3.

Gus isn’t usually a picky kitty… he loves food and generally has healthy poops - I’ve always given him a mix of wet with no issues. I was a little thrown off that he didn’t want to eat it, thought he’d be all over it.. but he doesn’t like that thick gravy I guess - now we know. Hope he like the chicken soup too :)

Wishing you and Max good health in 2022!

It will probably be recommended that you try a novel protein diet then (by someone here on the board or by your vet.).
Oh we have tried several of those too. He won’t eat any of it. The vet gave me another round of Metronidazole and says we will follow up at his visit in January.

Thank you Suzanne for all of your suggestions. I did order some of the food you mentioned. It couldn’t hurt to try it. I have wasted tons of money on cat food anyway, but I donate it to this lady who feeds feral cats if I can’t use it. I wasn’t trying to be short with you or anything before. It is just unbelievably frustrating as hard as I try to give him the best care possible, it’s always one thing after another. I’m hanging in there with him though. It’s hard with other things going on in life but I guess we all go through it. Anyway I appreciate your help and support so much!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Same to you! Gus is just being a cat. You know how they are… one minute they like something and the next, they don’t lol.:cat:

Hi Lori, I'm sorry poor Max is having such a hard time. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

S boulardii won't work on diarrhea if the cat has low B12 levels or EPI. Has he been tested for both?

I just read on your previous condo that you're giving the Visbiome in the packets. I would get the capsules next time when you run out of the packets as the mix contains cornstarch. Open the capsule and measure out 1/32 tsp and sprinkle into food twice a day to start, going up to a half capsule or ⅛ tsp twice a day.

Oh, and if plain chicken is all he is willing to eat, it is safe to feed that to him for several weeks without any supplementation, at least until his diarrhea is resolved. I love Weruva but a lot of their foods contain guar gum as a binder which can be irritating/inflammatory. I would feed him some plain food for a while, then when he starts to feel better add EZ Complete to either cooked or raw food as Suzanne suggests. It might make a big difference for him. I know it has for my cats with GI issues.

Thanks so much Katherine! I have some EZ complete here but just haven’t started it yet. I’m beginning to think that’s what I need to be doing. He’s just becoming so sensitive to different things with his GI system. I didn’t realize the packets had cornstarch. I will get the capsules next time. Thanks so much for your great advice! Happy New Year to you!

Oh and yes he was tested back in August and his B 12 was normal at that time. He was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis though. I may ask to recheck all that when he goes in January for his visit to the vet.

I'm glad he likes the Grandma's Chicken Soup. It's listed as 21% carbs. Those carbs come from potatoes, not wheat. Neko had a problem with wheat too.

As far as a steroid, budesonide might be a better choice for Max if you have to go there. It's a safer option if a cat has a heart condition, and for many cats does not impact the BG like prednisolone does. It didn't impact Nekos BG at all.

Thanks Wendy, that’s good to know. I will mention that to his vet if she does want to start steroids.

EZ Complete was a big game changer for us around here. Hope you figure out something that will work for little Max, I totally empathize with the "going out of your mind" feeling!

I may get back with you and ask a few more questions about the EZ complete once we get through the worst of this. Yes! I’m glad someone knows how I am feeling! I hope it gets better soon too.

He bounced as expected from the green today. To make matters worse, he had a little attitude and moved during PM shot and although I think most of it went in, a few drops landed on his fur. So he will probably be on the moon for New Years Day.

I’m not at all upset! I was actually afraid that I was being pushy and annoying! I thought, oh well, Lori will forgive me… she must know that I just am concerned about her and Max!

You are never annoying nor pushy Suzanne! It’s just me being frustrated sometimes when I don’t know what else to do. I actually do listen to the advice from anyone who tries to help us and I’m very appreciative. I know that you are just concerned about us and I really appreciate that.:bighug:

Sending healing vibes for poor Max, IBD and pancreatitis and probably food intolerances, phew. You're doing an amazing job but I hope your vet has some answers for you in January.:bighug::bighug::bighug:
