Yesterday...

It doesnt seem to matter when I feed or test...he likes the +2 plummet lol.

Perhaps a repeat of yesterday.

So couple things I can monitor till about +5 today...picking friends up from airport...come home to test and feed and I have to work again today. No one will be home to check on him is biggest difference. So gonna see where numbers take us and try not to get overly stressed out.

Test him every hour so you can feed a little higher low carb, if necessary, to slow him down. That way, if he is flat when you have to leave, you will know he will be okay.
Yep planned on checking every hour while I'm home.

I had to walk dog for last time this morning so the +1 test I missed...not that I think anything would have happened yet as he likes to wait to last possible sec before +2 LOL

I will get a +4 and a +4.5 then I have to fly out the door...should be back by about +5.5or just a bit after.. just enough time to test feed and blaze out door for work...sigh busy day

So random...can cats become less sensitive to carbs as they become more regulated? Curious since the 4% didnt slow him down this morning.

Clearly he is still sensitive enough that the 9% works well

Here’s my take on it. Cat food is made in huge batches. So batch to batch can vary as to how many carbs are actually in the can you open. The difference between 4 and 9 % might not be so much or it could be a lot.

That's a good thought...hadnt really thought that way. I wanted to go raw but worry about cost and if they would actually eat...they're getting to be older and set in ways now

There are some cooked foods out for cats but many more for dogs. Have you ever looked at Susan Thixton’s food lists of food she would feed her cat? She’s just come out with a new one for 2022.

Raw is expensive unless you make your own. I spend way more on my two than I ever did before. Mocha has allergies so I but it from a pet food store. I try and buy when they have 15-30% off sales but they are becoming much less often.

You can always just start with raw as treats as well and see how they respond. Due to urgent health concerns with the chylothorax I had to switch Mr Kitty cold turkey to raw, and he loved it at first. But unfortunately because he felt so sick, he associated it with being sick and it didn't last very long and he won't touch it again :/

I am doing the freeze dried chicken treats and I believe those are raw....he is nuts for them

Yes. You can try mixing the 9 with the 4. Play with it to see whether it’s better to use more 4 or 9.

I'd just go straight linear math I guess? So half 4% to half 9% is 6.5%
I over think lol

I think I will maybe over weekend when I can be home consistently. Should I give at all meals and snacks or later in cycle? I know that thread you sent me one mentioned later in cycle

It depends on the cat and the bg in the cycle to me. Today it wasn’t necessary. When you have a very active cycle and the bg starts low I would start early and evaluate with each test.

So I think thought dont trust and will get a +4 but +2 and +3 were flat...159 and 158.

Only reason I post is because at +3 he jumped up on the testing sofa and meowed at me. I thought maybe he is feeling low...but no just wanted a treat and snack and he knows he gets tested and gets snacks LOL. Such a good boy!
