Hi all!

I have to leave home at about +5.75...taking friends dog to vet for follow up after her surgery a couple weeks ago (they are still out of town:confused:

Based on his numbers have we hit nadir? I can and will leave out food for him...but wanted to know if he seems to be surfing safely.

Ok so before anyone asks of course I'm gonna shoot full dose...but giving a heads up we may need some support tonight.

I'm gonna hold off going to walk the dog until I can get a +1 and leave food for him and watch start eating so I know he will eat...then gonna try to get back as quick as I can to +2...but may be closer to +2.5 or +2.75

With the amount you test and the experience and data you have, you can shoot any number over 50. You have the tools to keep him safe!

What lovely flat Lantus cycles he has had yesterday and today! :)
Thank you Bhooma! I doubt myself a lot! So getting reassurance is awesome and appreciated <3

Anything lower than 100 still scares me I know logically I'd be fine and so would LM. Just seems so scary to me

The first time is scary. Once you cross that barrier, you will see that it is no different from shooting higher numbers. A kitty can start high at PS and still dive to low greens or limes in the cycle. A lower preshot does not necessarily mean that he will dip low. He could stay flat or head higher with the PS being the nadir.

Even when they dip into lime (irrespective of preshot), they are safe when you test often and feed to bring them up quickly.

I can logically understand that... sometimes I think if I shoot full dose at lower number he will drop just as far as he would at a higher number. I know that's illogical because insulin doesnt work that way.

My bigger fear isnt the lower numbers it's the lower numbers if I'm not home. One thing I'm learning is you cannot get comfortable thinking you've figured them out cause as soon as you do they throw a curve ball and nadir changes

LM typically has been fairly consistent with his times of nadir...how he dives at +2 etc...but if I get too comfortable with that we might get into trouble. At least that's the impression I get reading these other posts.

You are right. It’s important to never get complacent. You are doing a really good job with him. The ones who get into trouble think things will never change and get complacent. You dint need to be scared. Just keep doing what you are doing.

No it doesn't. A mantra here is "shoot low to stay low" :-)

We like to joke that our sugarcats keep us on our toes and more often than not they do! I'm not suggesting that you get complacent - unregulated cats can be unpredictable. But when you can test for a good chunk of the cycle (especially the first half), you can keep him safe. You always have the option of feeding higher carbs or leaving higher carbs out if you have to leave him for a bit.

Thankyou Elise and Bhooma! I appreciate all the help and compassion you have! It means a lot.

I've come a long way. When I see him green I smile instead of freak out now. I dont worry as much as I used too. LM has come a long way as well thanks to you guys. He is so much healthier and happier!

You have done really well in just a couple months. It is great to see them feeling better because their BG levels are lower.
