TIME FOR ANOTHER .25u INCREASE? I held 3.5u for 10 cycle with the hope of seeing green or low blue, we got pretty close but instead numbers are slightly increasing...bummer :arghh:
Micio is doing much better since the ER visit for tooth/gum infection on 12/17, he doesn't seem in pain and doesn't even present any signs of infection in his mouth at all...
Just wondering, what does usually cause the numbers to go back up rather than go down and back in the right place?
TIA

I would say so...you can increase as often as every 3 days on TR until you start to see those lovely green numbers.

Glad Micio is doing better after that tooth/gum issue. Hopefully he's all better from that and can get busy working on those BG numbers with you.

When you ask about the numbers going up rather than going down, do you mean at pre-shot times when Micio's numbers are higher? Or are you referring to sometimes the numbers are higher - perhaps due to a bounce?

I guess I was referring to a "bounce" then...I also look at other's spreadsheets and I see even bigger jumps (highs and lows), almost like a rollercoaster when treating diabetes

It is like a roller coaster. I would hold 10 cycles the first time you see blue or green on each new dose.

This is a little story I wrote to some other members a while back to help with what's going on with bouncing - what do all those crazy numbers mean? Hope this helps!

I wish I could draw a picture of that little pancreas...it's got a little tired face today on your kitties @@Butters & Lyla and @@Lisa & Oberon - that little guy is just pooped out...and has it's little tiny feet up on the sofa...just kinda taking a little nap...only problem is it's so tired and worn out, it's having trouble waking up from that nap...

So while that little guy is resting, help him out and gently, slowly and carefully, increase the dose of 'helper juice' aka insulin - that you're giving. The thing with these little pancreas fellows, is the darn thing wakes up from it's nap and gets all energized and says, 'Hey I can help!'...and starts making insulin and making a contribution...and that's when you've got to back off from the help aka insulin you're giving...and let the little fellow help out...but then he'll get tired again...and well 'sigh'...just gotta sit down and maybe even put it's tiny feet up again and take another snooze...how long will he rest for this time? No one really knows...but when you're helping with the insulin you give and get those greens, it's really hard to tell if he's actually allowing a little bit of homegrown insulin go...or if he's holding onto it tightly while he's resting - but the green numbers are healing numbers...so either way, that pancreas is happy when those numbers are down - less demand - so he's not running so fast on his tiny little 'gerbil wheel' trying to crank out the insulin...:D

And then let's not even get started on what Mr. Liver thinks of all this activity...because he's the guy in charge of STORAGE! He's constantly storing a supply of gylcogen (sugar basically) JUST IN CASE! He's a real life-saver when it comes down to it...because when that blood sugar goes too low (from your contribution and little pancreas fellow working a little too much)...then he comes to the 'rescue' and dumps a nice big load of sugar into that bloodstream...because he doesn't want anything bad to happen to those organs - like the brain and heart and other important organs that need that 'food'...sugar is a form of energy to the body...and that makes everyone happy except for you...and well, the liver gets a little over-enthusiastic sometimes and dumps all it's got reserved and then there's too much sugar in the blood stream and that's not really a very good thing either - all that sugar coursing through the veins isn't very healthy...kinda hard on those kidneys to deal with all that sugar then...:woot:

And so it goes...it's a real merry go round in there with all these players...so just test, test, test...and count based on your dosing method - since those are tried and true and will help you with the pace of a healthy progress back towards a regulated orchestra in there...:joyful:

And for now...I'm pooped just writing about it...

Have a great evening ladies :bighug:

Have a great evening ladies :bighug:

Well done and cute, thanks! Dealing with my cats IBD+EPI for several years now and could write a few stories too about and
It can be sad, stressful but somehow funny too and there are times where I’m crying and laughing in the same time… never thought that seeing a nice-dark brown-stinky-healthy poop would literally make my day
But I would do all over again and again…I love my furry kids more than myself.

I’ll be taking my Micio to the vet next Friday and, unless the vet will kick me out of the office because she’ll found out how much insulin I’ve been giving him (she never educated me about feline diabetes and wasn’t there when I needed support and in a timely manner, but I’m glad because I discover the FDMB!), I wonder how his liver levels will be since the insulin…his ALT has always been very high (over 500 when I first took in Micio about 13 yrs ago) and went through extreme highs and lows through the years but numbers were under 100 last September so I don’t know what to expect, we’ll see…my cats really keep my life very interesting

I suspect the high ALT is due to EPI. if only that is high and other liver values normal it’s probably not a concern. Max’s ALT would get higher with pancreatitis flares. My internist was not concerned given his other values.

Bring your ss and if your vet doesn’t like it to the smile and nod thing and say ok. Then continue as you are. Sometimes when they see the ss they back off.

Micio has EPI for about 3 yrs but had high ALT values since I took him in in 2009 when he was already about 5 yrs old. Vets ( including the internal medicine Dr. )never brought up possible pancreatitis 'till 1-2 yrs ago but were never sure about it neither too concerned...We put him on Budesonide (as the "lightest" meds for him) and recently stopped after 3 months of tapering that down)...keeping my fingers cross!
I'll bring my SS and, although I forsee her negative reaction but I will continue my way anyhow...
Have a Merry Christmas and tnx for always being there!
