Charlie is 63 at +3 PMPS. I just gave him gravy lovers. He is only on 1 drop of Lantus now (for the past 2 1/2 days). At what point do a trial without insulin?
He eats 1/4 can of food at 7 AM, 1 PM, 7 PM & 9:30ish(not always hungry so it sits overnight & he usually finishes overnight). He doesn’t eat the whole thing in one sitting, so it sits until I take it away two hours before shot time. I work & come home for lunch. I wouldn’t be home to give him a snack 3-4 PM. But he would have food available at PMPS +3. (His shots are 7 AM & 7 PM).Hmm. He has too much blue but you are using an AT. Does he get a +9 snack? With the 63 he’s earned the reduction. I’m not ready to call it an otj trial but let’s try a food trial. Test at amps and pmps. If blue get a +3-4. Feed a small snack at +8-9. Is this possible?
Thanks so much! I didn’t shoot him this morning. His BG was 114 (which is lower for him than it has been). I should be able to test +4 at 11 AM- would that work? After that, I test at his normal PMBG time-7 PM, correct? Then I feed him dinner & take his food away at 8 PM. Then only test him at 10 PM if his 7 PM is over 110, correct?I would not continue giving insulin with a nadir under 68. I would try not shooting for a couple of days to see what happens. Test in the morning and night. Get.a +2-4/when possible if the Ambg or pmbg is over 110. You won’t lose momentum. If the numbers trend up you can restart insulin at a drop.
The ReliOn (and all human meters) usually read lower than pet meters, so the numbers look better!ALSO I’ve been using both AT & Relion simultaneously so I have Relion numbers too if needed ( not on sheet). I didn’t completely change to Relion because sometimes I get a tiny drop & Relion won’t read it.
You can feed more now, if he's hungry, but test 3 hours after that then.Thank you! He only ate a little bit (1/4 can maybe) this morning; still ok to take food away now?
I haven’t. His lowest Relion was 67.Have you gotten any tests under 50 with the Relion?
YesDoes that mean his pancreas is working?
YesTest again at his PM shot time (former). Give him a snack 3 hours before (+9) and don't feed till the PM shot time.
Yay! What is a good snack? Freeze dried chicken? A little wet pate? I try not to give Young Again except for treats.YesTest again at his PM shot time (former). Give him a snack 3 hours before (+9) and don't feed till the PM shot time.
Just a little of his usual LC wet food is fineYay! What is a good snack? Freeze dried chicken? A little wet pate? I try not to give Young Again except for treats.
Ok, thanks. If he’s not interested in wet food at that time, is freeze dried chicken ok?Make the snack small. Just a teaspoon or two.
Yes. He just needs to eat.Ok, thanks. If he’s not interested in wet food at that time, is freeze dried chicken ok?
Yay!! We will enjoy our little break from worry tomorrow. Happy Holidays to you as well! You are a blessing to usYea. Test him at 7 a.m., feed, and then test in 3-4 hours if possible unless green at Ambg. If green or around 100 don’t test again unless convenient. . It’s fine to test before you leave for the night and there’s no need to come home to test until you are home for the evening. Happy holidays! Enjoy worry free when it comes to Charlie.
Nice to see the green at +4.![]()

No his SS is still showing Alphatrak numbers. He’s pretty much never had green numbers at AMPS or PMPS. So if his AMBG & PMBG are 7 AM & 7 PM and are high, he needs to have a snack at 4 PM and 4 AM?His AMBG is a little too high. He’s not getting a green at PMBG either. Are all the tests using the Relion meter? For a strong remission it’s best to get the bg between 50-80 most of the time. Can you set an alarm to give a snack at +9?
The Ambg and pmbg are the last to come down. With many cats the +9 snack helps. I would try that and go back to a drop dose. If that doesn’t bring him mostly between 50-80 you might need to go up to .10 and feed a little higher carbs. No his SS is still showing Alphatrak numbers.
