Busy night. Looks like he may earn another reduction unless he settles quickly and just surfs the green. If he bounced from the greens of 12/6 PM, it was only into yellow and he quickly broke out. He had another hairball last night around PM+7. From PMPS until +7, he didn't want to get out of his bed. From +7 through +11, he got up and ate reasonably well for a kitty who really doesn't feel well. AMPS, I had to use Fortiflora and Squeeze-up to get him to eat enough. He last ate @ +9. Holding off on Karo for now unless he starts dropping fast. Plan to get +1.

Have you noticed any correlation between his appetite and when he gets Ondansetron? Maybe he feels nauseous once it wears off and doesn't want to eat?

Could be. Last couple days he's gotten the cream around AMPS and the pill about 30 min. to a hour before PMPS so there is some time where it has possibly worn off around the pre-shots. The lack of appetite last night I put down to the ordeal of receiving the oral pill via the pill shooter which shoots the pill and water down his throat, gets water all over his front and makes a screechy sound. I think he was just done with me after that. I thought maybe that hairball was causing him problems from PMPS to PM+7 when he got rid of it. After that he ate better.

+1, steady @ 89. Offered 1t FF & he ate a little but wasn't really interested; maybe by +2 the Ondansetron will have kicked in and dealt with any nausea, if that is the problem.

Ondansetron takes only 30 mins or so to kick in. You are giving it twice a day? Want to up it to TID and see if that helps?

The high phosphorus levels might also be making him feel unwell.

CKD is such a complex condition. I realized it when Bandit's worsened. So many things to keep track of. It's very overwhelming!
I wonder if the transdermal Ondanetron has a different time of onset than the oral. @ +2 he has dropped to 77 but was interested in some FF followed by about a 1/4 t of Karo water. Not sure of the ratio of Karo to water but it is largely water. When I have given about a teaspoon of the mixture, his blood sugar rose a good bit, 40 points but dropped again in a couple hours. I always give some FF--teaspoon or so--as I know the Karo water is only a booster that doesn't last and the FF will help maintain his levels.

If the transdermal takes longer to raise the levels of Ondansetron in his system, then the onset appears to be greater than an hour. I don't think I want to use the transdermal more than once per day but maybe I could split the oral into 2 deliveries. I'll have to look at that.

+4 gave 2.5mg. Famotidine using pill shooter. First attempt failed and pill somehow managed to attach itself to his fur. Finally did get it down. Will check BG in 30 min. & feed again if he'll eat.

It's a pity no one has come up with low carb pill pockets. I believe there are pill pockets for dogs that are low carb, but I'm not sure if there are any ingredients that would not do for cats.
I've found that half a pill pocket is enough for 1/2-1/4 tabs so maybe you can try them for Bama. See if it spikes his BG a whole lot? Will be one battle less.

Pill pocket equal no stress maybe, and it would prevent any rise in BG due to stress?

I also used a typically forbidden pate food and wrapped a pill in it. Worked great.

Precious Bama:kiss:. You are not being punished, Doll.

I actually used Greenies Pill Pockets initially with his Ondansetron and it worked well until the time he bit through and got a taste of the bitter pill which then fell in his food bowl. He foamed at the mouth and vomited. I haven't tried it since.

He is holding steady in the 80s @ +5. After I wiped some on his mouth, he ate a bit of FF off my finger then more from his bowl. I have to go out for a bit. I left his bowl nearby with FF in it and a few kibble. I should be back in an hour or so but will have to leave again this afternoon.

PM+2.5 He is not eating well, refusing the FF from earlier. Will eat kibble covered in Squeeze-up. Added some karo water. I cannot deal with a cat who won't eat. I may try the Mirataz ointment later. He had Ondansetron about 30 minutes before PMPS. Did not eat well. PMPS number due to karo I added to +9 to bring up his numbers a bit, knowing it will wear off eventually, and it has.

I meant to ask this before, but what kind of pill shooter are you using. I have never seen a pill shooter that squirts water and it sounds dangerous to me. It seems like that would create a chance of Bama inhaling some water and getting aspiration pneumonia. Why water? When I pill, I just shoot the pill and follow it up with some canned food or some kibble if that’s what they will eat, or treats - anything to make sure the pill goes down all the way. If I have a kitty who really will not eat (even baby food) then I do slowly and carefully syringe in a few cc of water into the side of my kitty’s mouth. What does this water pill shooter look like? I’ve never seen one.

Anyway what I wanted to say was… don’t you have the Ondansetron in the orally dissolving tablets (does it say ODT on the label or box). They are the “mini-melts.” I never tried to dissolve them in a kitty’s mouth because of the flavor though - I just shot them in with the piller.

The Ondansetron are the hard tablets not the dissolving ones. I opened a new can of a chicken pate he hasn't had in a while and he started eating that--about 0.75 oz.--so it may be he has started associating some of the FF flavors he's been eating with feeling sick. Anyway, he seems to feel a little better, actually came toward me to get tested whereas before I had to go get him.

The piller I got was from Chewy a lot time ago. Lixit Pill Popper.

How big are the Ondansetron tablets. I hope not too big. Ondansetron oral can take effect as quickly as 15 minutes. But perhaps that is the mini-melts and the regular ones take a few more minutes. And ECID! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Once you get the phosphorus blood level down and get him well hydrated he should eat better. You’re doing appetite stimulants?
