Just finished another 6th cycle on 2.25u, up for another .25u increase?
@tiffmaxee, @Bron and Sheba (GA) ,@Wendy&Neko , HOW DO YOU THINK MICIO IS DOING? WOULD REALLY LOVE YOUR EXPERTISE OPINION....How much more insulin can he safely take? Micio also has heart murmur, not to the point where he needs medication yet but are there any concerns about all of these insulin increases? Should I stay with TR or go back to SSGS?
TIA

The insulin will not negatively effect his heart. Getting him tightly controlled will help his kidneys. The amount of insulin he needs is whatever gives him a normal range of bg. That will keep him healthiest and protect his organs. He’s not on a high dose at all. I would increase to 2.50 unless you see blue or green tonight.

Yes I would increase the dose to 2.5 U if you don’t see any blue or green this pm cycle.
He needs as much insulin as it takes to bring the BGs into normal range. Just follow the dosing methods.
You are doing a great job looking after him!

Neko had heart disease and insulin didn't impact her, even when she finally needed to go on medications. As others have said, he needs as much insulin as he needs to get him into good numbers. We have cats here on all sorts of dose sizes.

Just out of curiosity, what's the highest amount/ unit insulin can a cat take up to? I have no idea....tnx

It really depends on what the cat needs at that particular time. What might be too much for your cat might be just right or too little for another cat. And it can vary over time. My Neko's "good dose" ranged up to 8.75 units, down to 0.75 units, then slowly back up to 7.0 units, then back down eventually to 0.25 units, over the span of 5 years. The important numbers are the nadirs and blood sugar numbers, not the dose size. The dose it what it is to get your cat into good blood sugar numbers. Take a look at some of the other members around here and their cat's spreadsheets. And by the way, I've seen doses much highers than Neko's, on cats that needed more insulin than she did, even though at the highest she was higher than average.

Wow...I've looked at other people's SS but never came across those numbers. Thank you for explaining.

Thank you for explaining, that gives me a peace of mind.
