I have a question about TR.

I have a friend that I’ve been talking to, she’s my vet tech ;) and admitted yesterday that I might know more about diabetes than she does… thanks to you all!! She’s so very knowledgable but I live diabetes these days and it is, what it is..

Anywho, we were talking about TR yesterday, she’s thinking about maybe trying her kitty on this protocol but I forgot to ask her if her kitty is still eating dry cuz I know that her kitty was a dry addict - though I know she’s eating more wet now.

My question is, why on TR does the cat have to be on a strict wet diet? Is it just because dry is unpredictable as to when it kicks in? And with the constant dose changes, it’s risky?

@Bandit's Mom

This cycle tonight ends 3 days of new dose @ 3u.

Should I hold this dose an extra day with these blues?

I’ll definitely be checking him around +4 … guessing if he’s moving up I should go with a new dose in the morning of 3.25u? And he goes lower I should hold?

What do you think?

There was no low carb dry when the TR protocol wa developed. And yes, the belief is that dry metabolizes differently and stays in the system longer. The original TR protocol was developed with low carb wet or raw food, and given the protocol is aggressive, there is safety in following it as it was originally conceived.

+4 119! Alright buddy boy!
Yes! Think you can get another test? I want to see if he dips into green. :D

Eureka, we have a green!!! :D:D:D +5 94

What are our next steps tonight? Test every hour until he starts going up? I just gave him a small snack (hope that’s ok…)

I also started Dasuquin this evening at PSPM meal… no idea how long it takes to work if multiple days are needed… or what (I only gave him one capsule even though the bottle says 2 for cats over 10lbs - he’s about 14). Though he was dropping before the Dasuquin tonight.

Yes and yes :-)

I have not used Dasuquin, but I used another similar joint supplement for my civvie. It takes a few days to start working. But yes, less pain/inflammation = better numbers.
Tonight's numbers are more the dose working than the Dasuquin.

Ya, I think it’s the dose too. Good to know that it will take a few days for the Dasuquin.. was wondering about that.

Just so I’m prepared. I don’t think we’ll get to this… but good to know.

When would I give him mc/hc foods? When he’s under 50? And just little spoon fulls and maybe just gravy even?

Usually, you give HC below 50. We also use higher carbs (HC or MC) earlier in the cycle when they dive and you need higher carbs to prevent them from dropping below 50 (on a human meter). In bounce clearing cycles, there is additional momentum. Sometimes that momentum causes them to drop and earn a reduction which doesn't hold. So the idea is to intervene with higher carbs, prevent that drop below 50 (on a human meter) and keep them at a good dose as long as is possible.

How much carbs you use depends on (a) how carb sensitive your cat is (b) where in the cycle you are intervening. Earlier in the cycle you need higher carbs to bring up numbers. Later not as much. There are exceptions to everything and ECID. It's all trial and error. We ask people to note down in the SS when they've fed higher food. Over time you have enough information on how your cat reacts to carbs to be able to "feed the curve".

He's flattening out. You can feed and go to bed. He will probably head up from here.

Back in green after 4 months!!!!

Yay! What a good night!

I’m a bit of a night Hawk, so I’ll be up for a bit … but I might give him a break from the pokes.

Thanks for your help today, Bhooma! As always, it’s much appreciated!
