Good morning everyone!

Very good news to share,
Yesterday Tansi started taking some bites of food on his own. Not much, and still syringe feeding, but he has been coming to the dishes and sniffing. Sometimes he takes a few bites. He also looks better and his eyes don't seem as squinty. Getting some attitude too, with loud complaints, and came when I called him yesterday. This morning he used the scratching post. Yesterday I noticed him grooming. This is enough progress that I am told to begin stretching out his GS doses to 15 hours instead of 12.
Eventually he will be back to 24 hours which is normal dosing.
He is still very sick however, he still has jaundice, a hugely distended belly from the abdominal effusion that is characteristic of wet fip.

Today I decided to skip insulin considering how close he is to green, and because of switching to gsgl.
We also have to leave for a few hours this afternoon and this is not a time to have a hypo event!!

Yesterday I put him on hills A/D and hydracare for syringe feeding. He has lost a great deal of wieght so he needs more calories. I was surprised thst the hills looks pretty good. First 5 ingredients are meat, and looks like carbs are around 3.5
Maybe this is why he was so low this morning, ir maybe just a one off.

Yes I asked this question too! It starts to drain out on its own around day 10 of treatment via urine. It is extremely disconcerting to look at and I sm sure has to be uncomfortable. But I guess that it isn't life threatening unless it gets in lungs.

How's he doing this evening?
I think he is doing ok. He had a few bites of food on his own, a few meows, and less of an ordeal with syringe feeding. I think yesterday was better but I'm not discouraged. Pretty sure it's not all sunshine on the way to recovery.

I am really encouraged. It's kind of a relief that we are pretty much sure that it's fip now. The treatment working is one way of confirming the diagnosis, it doesn't work on anything else.
Interesting too is that fip is caused by a corona virus!

Yes, we've been dealing with pleural effusion (the fluid around the lungs) since July...I took him to ER vet on a day where I just knew something wasn't right, he would not have made it through the night I am sure, 250mL of fluid in his chest. Poor kitty has had probably 6 or 7 chest taps by now to drain it? That's why I was surprised they didn't want to drain fluid.

Could that also be contributing to constipation then? I imagine with all that extra pressure.

Yes. Fine Coronavirus is a common viral infection. I wish more was understood about how the virus changes to cause FIP. Thank God there’s effective treatment now.

Oh no, that sounds absolutely dreadful for you and kitty. My heart goes out to you.

Well actually, now we have the opposite problem today lol

I asked why the abdominal effusion isn't drained. They will take out 20 percent if breathing affected. Otherwise draining the fluid can lead to shock. Also draining can cause more and more effusion so it really defeats the purpose. The treatment will resolve the situation I am told.
