Yesterdays BGs: AMPS 258 / +4 155 / +9 140 / PMPS 118 / +2.5 173 / +4 183

Her BGs are weird. She's still having diarrhea. But her congestion does sound better. Waiting on the vet to call me back about the poops.

One of my other kitties, Emma, had a bad infection in her mouth and she's on Clavamox and she's having a rough time, especially this morning. Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite.

It's a lot when the babies are sick :(
My husband is walking around the house with carpet cleaner, paper towels, and a garbage bag.

Poor babies. And poor husband!
That pink is unheard of from her, so I’m wondering if the meds or an infection are causing higher numbers? Not to say that you shouldn’t increase, but once the meds are done, you might get some lower than expected numbers if you increase? Just my thoughts, I hope someone more experienced comes on before it’s shot time. 326 poor Jill!

Are you giving your other kitty probiotics (2 hours apart from the antibiotic). Antibiotics can ruin tummy flora and cause upset.

As for Jill, she got to 60 a couple days ago, I'd hold the dose until this bounce is over. Also, we hold doses with green nadirs for 10 cycles. Too soon to increase. Might be a "high before the low" tonight.

My other kitty isn’t getting probiotics. She has allergies - we think food allergies - and I’m not sure if they’d be ok for her. The vet isn’t in again till Tuesday to ask.

I wasn’t sure if we have to hold a decrease if it is quickly showing to not be working. But I don’t know what’s going on with Jill. Her URI symptoms seem better but her diarrhea is really bad.

I have a cat with allergies to quite a few proteins. She gets the Visbiome probiotic. Look for the ingredients, most should be OK for a cat. Here is a page on probiotics from a website specializing in IBD cats (a good number who have allergies).

thanks for this! Another cat of mine (Bowie, I have 8) takes Proviable, which I am now giving to Jill. I'll do some reading and see if my allergic cat (Emma) can take it too. She's super unhappy about her antibiotic situation. And she's supposed to be on it for 3 weeks.

You should probably switch Emma off of Clavamox to a different antibiotic. A lot of cats cannot tolerate clav. I have those who do fine on it and those who totally cannot take it. I keep a list of who can and who cannot tolerate it, because otherwise I am inclined to forget! I took it myself and was miserable (human version is Augmentin.).

Wendy did you do allergy testing in your cat to determine what she was allergic to? I am considering this.

A course of Metronidazole may help your Jill. Even if the cause if not bacterial, the anti inflammatory effect of Metronidazole in the gut can help. You can ask the vet. If she has an upper respiratory infection, consider Viralys L-Lysine powder to help inhibit the replication of the herpes virus. You can buy it on Amazon.

She had a week of metro and it didn't do anything :( So the vet gave her albon yesterday and we are off the antibiotic.

It sucks that the vets don't warn you about these things. Our vet isn't back in till Tuesday so hopefully she can tolerate till then and we will see what he says. Emma's back and forth on whether she's hungry or not. It's terrible because we think she has food allergies so there's only 2 things she can eat - rabbit pate and rabbit kibble. So when she doesn't want that, I have nothing else to offer her :(

Poor Emma. I have a beautiful grey tabby girl named Emma, too! I hope she will eat enough. How did you figure out which proteins she is allergic to? Which brand of rabbit are you feeding?

We went straight to the rabbit and pea formula - the vet said most cats have the best tolerance for that. But we think she might also have environmental allergies, which we are strongly considering doing testing for, but it sounds so terrible. And expensive.

Here is my Emma, show me yours!

I can’t see her.
