Good luck with the curve, Kim, and I hope you and Gus are well. Are you doing any manual testing or just the Libre?

Ty! The Libre was only for the first 2 weeks of his diagnosis. Been using the freestyle lite meter since. His spreadsheet would be all coloured in if he had that device on now ;) scanning your cat can be addictive!

While I love the idea of having a sensor to do all the work, no pokes and having unlimited data… I’m not a big fan of the device as a whole… interstitial glucose reading… and being 15 mins behind… it was good at the start while I got used to everything. Not to mention Gus didn’t love it… to be more specific he tolerated it but hated the shirt he had to wear… even though he looked so darn cute!

Hope your curve provides good data. He does seem to be flat a good part of the time so you will probably need to increase after the curve. Don't worry. Once he gets to a good dose you may be surprised how fast his body gets better at using that insulin and starts to come down in dose. At least, that is what happened with Bama Kitty.

Yes, that is one of the reasons I didn't get one for Susie. I just couldn't bring myself to have it attached to her and then the shirt. Sure would have made my life easier, though, and probably Susie's too without the constant jabs. Plus I read they fall off or fail often.

My vet put it on him and the original plan was to dose at 1u for 3 months then try the Libre again and see how he’s doing but I couldn’t just shoot blind! He had a few greens with the Libre!

The RVT (my oldest friend) told me I could use a human meter or the AT… my dad has diabetes but only needs to control it by diet and pills. So he offered me his meter and said he’d get a new one :) By then I had been lurking around this forum and on the FB page and got a lot of info and help on home testing… alas, we did not need to install a new Libre ;) and I felt much safer.

I'm so glad you are comfortable with the home testing. I was an absolute "wreck" when I learned what it was all about. I was scarred to death and didn't want to hurt Susie. A vet technician called me and said if I didn't do the home testing I could easily lose Susie. He put the fear of God into me and I am so grateful now that he did. She was very easy to test. Would actually lie on her testing blanket so I could test and shoot. The last couple of weeks were difficult because, for some reason, I could not get blood out of her ears and had to poke and poke and poke. It just broke my heart. I can't think about that now. It still hurts. Just wanted to let you know that I am glad you are home testing, Gus. It is SO crucial to taking care of them properly.

Well… I may have made sound like it was easy but it definitely took some time and we didn’t love it either… I still feel bad about it.. he looks at me sometimes like ..’is this my life now’. Not to mention the early days when it took a few pokes just to get anything. But we eventually found a groove and we tolerate it now, knowing it’s best for him.

We eventually found the bathroom was easiest, less places for him to go - when we did it in the open he would walk away from me like two feet and put his back to me at every step of the process... so I would go in the bathroom and close the door but not all the way and typical ‘cat hates closed doors’ he would barge in and it was as if it was on his terms, lol. He then started to just lay down and ‘ok, ma, let’s do this, I’m hungry’ :) it’s easier now but like today he’s been trying to get away from me (our safe place is being Reno’d atm) each test and it breaks my heart too. I just keep reminding myself that we need to do this, it’s what’s best for him and hopefully one day we don’t have to do it so much.

Super cool that your vet actually suggested it and pushes it though! I see a lot of vet not saying anything at all or when the caregiver asks about it they say it’s not needed…

I hope that all your good memories with Susie can help heal that pain a little. I barely know you but you are here for me (a stranger) showing me such kindness and encouragement, I just know she loved you so very much! :bighug:

Good luck with the increase. Come on Gus, time to work the juice :)

Thanks :) I’m hoping to see some changes with this increase… even just enough to get him out of renal threshold - that would make this mama happy

Not much different at +2 but it probably needs sometimes to build into the depot… interested in see tomorrow’s AMPS
