I haven't had time yet to update all her BGs in yesterday's title, but she was low all night and not eating much from her Clavamox. Went to bed around +5 in the 70s.

She ate a good breakfast, but at 45 and not confident her appetite will stay, should I shoot? Lower dose for now? I don't feel great about shooting so low and so unsure of her health/appetite today.

You never want to shoot under 50. Since she’s had hc she would need to come up and stay up 2 hours before you know it’s safe to shoot. You both were up a lot last night. Remind me why Clavamox. That’s the best not snake here too as if she has an infection and not eating there’s danger of dka I think. So good you are asking for another antibiotic and feed her whatever she will eat.

For the last week+ she's been stuffy and coughing, like a post nasal drop thing. We had her to the vet on Thursday and she was snotty, too. So the vet put her on clavamox for a suspected URI or she was thinking maybe a sinus infection because all the discharge was happening on one side. We got metronidazole on Saturday but it's definitely not working yet. Poop everywhere!

Jill normally has an amazing appetite so it's concerning when she's not ready and waiting for meals.

Oy. Convenia scares me BUT my vet gave it to Max a couple of times because it wouldn’t cause intestinal issues and he did fine. I was scared both times.

Bama Kitty has had convenia two or three times for skin issues and possible UTI and had no problem. I don't know enough about it to worry so when vet suggested it, I said go for it.

I feel like this vet always wants to use Convenia but what it is really indicated for? Jill got it a couple of months ago for skin sores.

It is for skin issues I believe and mostly cats you can’t pill or so there aren’t intestinal issues. The only times Max had it was after a tooth was pulled once he was diabetic. Otherwise he was given oral meds. My vet would not use an antibiotic for a uri. I would want a different antibiotic and add a probiotic for her tummy. You don’t even know if there is an infection. If not bacterial an antibiotic isn’t needed. That’s the reason for a culture and also to see which antibiotic will work if bacterial.

What do they culture if her nose isn't runny? It was when we were there last week but not since. I think she was showing off :)

The problem with it is it stays with them for a couple months as it’s long lasting so if there are bad side effects there’s no way to treat them.

Jill's had it before - a couple of o months ago - no issues, and my vets both swear none of their patients have ever had a bad reaction to it. The internet makes me worry about it though. I also feel like any time my cat is sick, one of the vets wants to give convenia.

Me too with the internet. My vet won’t give antibiotics easily. When a urine culture is negative he won’t give anything and won’t give longer if a kidney infection suspected but he will occasionally give convenia and he’s a smart man. Yet I was scared both times because of what I read. ;):banghead:

The vet said he can give her azithromycin which seems more in line with treating a URI if it's bacterial, and that they don't typically do cultures. Also to continue the probiotic.

Also they think I'm annoying as hell.
