He is awfully lethargic this morning.
I don't know if it's the bupe or he is in pain. Just tested and he was at 13.2
Going to see if he eats on his own now and if not I will give him Mirataz so I can shoot.
I think the 1.75 was too low.
Maybe I will go 2 today
 
Are you using Cerenia and Ondansetron for nausea? Giving sub-q fluids? Don’t give appetite stimulant without anti-nausea meds on board first. You probably already know that. Also, do you have a ketone meter (a blood ketone meter)?

Since you are home and he will eat I think he needs more juice. Any carb food is good right now. Pancreatitis takes time to resolve. My first bout with Max was at least two months but he wasn’t diabetic then. The pain meds and pancreatitis can make them lethargic.

With pancreatitis there will be times they don't eat. Even my non diabetic with triaditis has days he doesn't eat, just had a day yesterday.

You are new to this. And is scary and worrisome. We don't like to see them sick. This is why I mentioned not stopping the meds to early and to keep supply at home of all the meds.

Me personally I always gave it 24 hrs of not eating before I really start to panic. I would give all the meds including insulin, monitor closely. I had enough data to know I could give insulin safely at low number and or not eating. I also knew I had hours to get some food in him even just a little bit and I could syringe feed if needed. Once you get through this you will know the signs if he should have a flare up and start meds immediately.

Is there a reason for gabapentin instead of bupre? You are getting cerenia and ondansteron in him?

You are giving subq fluids correct? Maybe consider injectable cerenia, it's expensive but you can give in the fluids. Its one less thing you have to fight with, it will work faster than pill.

He has cerenia tablets and did get his dose yesterday

Yes he has both bupe and gabapentin

Yes on sub q 100 ml daily
 
Just be careful, the gaba can make them a little loopy. I do prefer the bupe.

Are you assist feeding at all? Sometimes it just takes getting a little food in the tummy for them to realize they are actually hungry (provided meds are on board)

Yes, I avoided the gabapentin yesterday because the bupe made him so sleepy. But emerg vet said give it and bupe as may increase appetite.
Currently he is crashed right out.

How often do you give bupre and gabapentin? If giving both every 12 hrs, you might try giving one 6 hrs after other one. That way he is getting something every 6 hrs.and pain is managed a little better.

Eventually he will adjust to bupre and he won't be so sleepy.

How much bupre and gabapentin are you giving

I have bupre .33 ml every 8 to 12 hours, and gabapentin 50 mg twice a day.
This morning I gave the bupre then gave gabapentin 4 hours later as advised by emerg vet. He is very dopey at the moment. I am going to definitely stagger the two.
I am ready for syringe feeding.
Was going to do it but just now he managed to eat 2 squeeze ups, one delectable pouch and about a tsp of ff pate. I am pretty happy with that at the moment.

Something you can tried if he will eat it. Vital Essentials freeze dried. In the patties (more economical than toppers). You can crumble small amount on his wet food as a topper. It's safe, complete meal, low fat.

Also Meat Meats freeze dried (I like this on better). Both available on chewy.

If he likes it add some water and make it wet and let him eat as much as he wants.

Unfortunately Chewy doesn't deliver to Canada. But I give him Purebites freeze dried turkey that he usually loves
Now he won't eat anything even the big mc treats . He ate a few forbidden Kittles crunchy cat treats, that's it.
I am going to syringe feed before his shot.
 
How's his water intake? I often had to really wet down the food, and even syringe some water if he was being particularly difficult. Some plain tuna water, mixed into either regular water or food, may help entice. Chicken broth too, but with either case you have to make sure no onions or other toxic stuff.

Remember to only syringe small amounts at a time. I usually started with about 5mL.

You're doing great! This is all very typical until they start feeling a little better. Can take days or weeks :/

It is such a comfort for you to say this is typical. I needed to hear that, thanks so very much.
I gave him about 5 ml ff pate mixed with the squeeze up stuff he likes.
It was a little too thick but I did get half of it down. Now I mixed up the same but added water so it is the thickness of a milkshake, so I think the next one I give him will be easier. I haven't seen him drink water, but then he is getting subq too. I will give him some water in the syringe too.

Max was always inappetent with pancreatitis. I wish ondansetron wasn’t so darn expensive in Canada. Syringe feeding is a good idea. Add a little water to the food you syringe.
 
It's stressful but much better that he's home. I also make a bib out of a crappy towel because it just gets everywhere...all over their fur, the walls when they inevitably toss their head. At some point Mr Kitty learned he could just let it drop out of his mouth :rolleyes:

He has always been such a huge pig haha, so this is so worrisome and unusual for him. It sure helps to know that this is typical stuff.
