I've read many here use Relion. I also see many recent reviews stating unreliable availability of solution, strips, hassle getting supplies, etc.

What is your current human-meter recommendation for smallest blood sample and least supply-hassle?

You can try the Freestyle Lite monitor
Small sample size, only 0.3 L. Just Google it and see who has the best price for both the monitor and test strips

Most of us use the Relion Premier Classic from Walmart, never had a problem with accuracy or getting strips
ReliOn™ Premier CLASSIC Blood Glucose Monitoring System is easy to use requiring a very small 0.5 microliter blood sample

Relion just recently D/C'd the Prime which a lot of people used but they are still making strips for it since so many people (humans) use it but now the Premier is the only meter available at WalMart. There are several models of the Premier with various bells and whistles, but the Classic is only $9 and works fine. You do have to make sure you get the Premier strips and not the Prime (they are the same price $17.88/100)

Since the Relion is a self-coding meter, they don't include control solution in their kits and it's not available for sale but if you really want it, you can call the company (the phone number should be on the back of your meter, on the box or in the instructions) and ask for it. Just don't tell them it's for a cat.

The Premier takes 0.5 which is still a small amount of blood

Fantastic, thanks. New to testing: Do I need the solution?
