BG level 71 stalling, please HELP

I would say 3 ½ units os also too high. I would go to nor more than 2 units and hold for a few day (unless you get another low BG) and then reassess of where to go.
Also you SS shows a BG of 59@+11 on 11/8 which is in the future.

agreed. also you’re right haha i’m very sleep deprived. He was on 4 for weeks and he was super high yesterday… I think I’m just going to do 1.5 and hold. What do I do for this morning? he’s had FF, some honey, and his normal food… 75 :(

I think Larry is right -- 3.0u is too much.

I'm including a link to a post on helping us to help you that will provide instructions on how to include information, including your spreadsheet, in your signature. It will give us more information about your kitty so we don't plague you for information. It will also save you the time from having to include your spreadsheet every time you post.

Yes, I know. I’m not going to shoot this morning because is still so low. Tonight I’m going to reduce to 1.5 as I stated above — I will check that link out, thank you

Hi if you didn't shoot today please put NS (No Shot)in the units square
Here are the 2 dosing methods for Lantus, please read them and choose one.
They will tell you when you have to increase or decrease .We increase or decrease by 0.25 units at a time. Do you have the U-100 with the half unit markings?
Lantus likes consistency the same units at AMPS and PMPS unless he earns a reduction
so please read the dosing methods

If he is eating any dry food at all you have to go with the SLGS Method

I’ve read about the two dosing methods and have not decided what is best for him yet. he’s on LC wet food & is doing well. I honestly just do not feel comfortable shooting 3.5 or even 3.25 when he is that low… I understand the consistency measure of it, but just the thought of giving him that much insulin at such a low BG is scary to me.

You said in your previous post above that
my only complaint is that I miss the length of the U40 needles, I have so many more fur shots with the U100!

What do you prefer a longer length syringe?
@jaybeth
Haha totally weird but I found that I had less fur shots with the U40 syringes when we used vetsulin. I think we will go with the SLGS method, we really just need a decent “start” dose

I just wanted to know if you liked a longer length syringe
Was the U-40 syringe the same length as the U-100 syringes
If you want a longer U-100 syringe I can suggest one

Just some additional info about SLGS... With Lantus, regardless of the dosing method you choose, you will want to consider lowering the dose over time. The basic idea with any of the depot insulins is "shoot low to stay low." This isn't something you immediately jump into but rather, as you gather more data, you can begin to shoot progressively lower numbers.

Yes… we are hoping to get his dose as low as we can (with ideal numbers) but were just so high before he was on LC food

How should we start our dosing for SLGS? we have been reducing it and I would love to get him on a lower dose — it’s been difficult because he’s been getting so low in his current dose and I haven’t been able to get any advice as to whether to reduce his dose now or not

Have you seen what @Chris & China (GA) asked you look to the right of each post , look for the #10

The difficulty at this point is that you haven't had a chance to accumulate a lot of information. I do think it makes sense to reduce the dose as you noted earlier to 1.5u. It's much easier on your nerves to not have to deal with unexpectedly low numbers when you're starting out on a new insulin. I think there's a good chance that 4.0u was way too much Vetsulin, as well.

What I would suggest is that you get at the minimum, 4 tests. You want to test at pre-shot like you've been doing. You want to get at least one test each cycle, preferably in the neighborhood of Nick's nadir. Vetsulin tends to drop numbers early and fast. Lantus is very different. Lantus doesn't begin to start working until about 2 hours after an injection. For most cats, nadir is somewhere in the vicinity of +6. You may not see much if you're testing at +1, especially if your pre-shot is high. (It's a different story if you have a low pre-shot and you want to make sure your cat stays in safe numbers.) In other words, when you've been testing at +1 during the PM cycle, it's not giving you much information about where numbers are heading at night.

Agreed. I tested much more today but have not updated the SS yet. I’d so much rather not have to worry about hypo… it is so stressful
