10/31 AMBG 127

I hope the numbers will come down soon. Given the recent dental surgery she’s doing well with her bg. Is she getting pain medication?

I found Neko's numbers went up for about 7-10 days after a dental if there was inflammation from extractions or other work. I presume you'll be having a follow up visit in a week?

They suggested a followup in 14 days so she goes back November 10.
Do you think that is too far off?

That is probably OK. Just keep an eye on her mouth for any redness or sign of pain before then.

I find it to be strange that they did not remove the teeth from the root. My Emma had a dental last week on October 25. One of her canine teeth had actually fallen out and they x-rayed that to make sure no root aS left behind. Then they x-rayed her remaining canine tooth and found that there was almost no root remaining on that one. The root had nearly all been resorbed. They then removed it. It’s just that I have heard of cats having problems with bits of root left behind. I do sincerely hope that Sister will be back to feeling tip top really soon with much better BG numbers. I hope that doing this with the teeth is a common procedure that I just haven’t experienced with my cats yet.

Yes, I had a stomatitis kitty a few years back. I read about removing teeth and making certain the dentist had a digital x-ray machine and how important it was that the roots were completely removed.
Unfortunately, I had no idea that Sister would require crown amputations (which are done two ways: leaving the root or removing it depending on if it is type 1 or type 2 resorption).
I will ask a couple of questions about that on her checkup next week. But what is done is done.
I do remember the vet telling me "left the roots, not involved" on the phone after her procedure.
(A bit of an accent. I think she is Vietnamese.)
Until Sister's dental, I had no idea one could amputate a tooth. I always thought the entire thing got pulled out.
Hugs,

Well this is a learning experience! For me too! I’m going to ask my vet about it as well… just for my info. I pray sister is doing well now? Feeling better? Eating well?

That’s good news! I think it’s working for her then.
I got some clarification on Sister's crown amputations today at her recheck.
The roots of those crowns were already "involved" in the resorption process.
So I misunderstood, I guess.
Vet said there was no need to remove the roots because her body would continue to absorb them, and digging them out would cause unnecessary trauma.

I’ve been doing some research on this. I’m attaching a very good article that talks about the three different types of feline resorptive lesions. I believe Sister must have had type 2. It describes the treatment in the same way your vet did - leaving the root. I thought I would share this with you. How is Sister doing now?

Wow, excellent article with great photos as illustrations of the types of resorption.
Sister is good. I was hoping her recurring throat mucus situation might resolve once the teeth were treated, but she still has that and it can cause her to vomit. Usually daily.
We are trying an allergy pill the vet prescribed. Been preoccupied with her brother, Monkeydo. His abdominal ultrasound yesterday found small lesions on the membrane. Internist let me watch the second ultrasound. Aspiration of one showed white blood cells/bacteria. Calling it inflammation or peritonitis (not to be confused with FIP). Rather than hospitalize this time (he had exploratory surgery Sept 2020 to drain 6 cups of fluid from his common bile duct, resize it, and attach it to his duodenum? because his gall bladder was found to be atrophied and non-functioning), I have him with me getting 300 ml fluids daily, strong antibiotics, pain meds, etc. Of course the solution is exploratory surgery. I just can't do that to him again...
Thanks for checking in.
Hugs,

Oh major hugs for you! What an overwhelming situation with Monkeydo. I pray he will be okay! I understand about not wanting to do the exploratory surgery again.

But I don’t want us to get in trouble for resurrecting an old condo! So I will post on your new condo if you have one or PM you. And yes, I thought that article was really food and wanted to share with you! I hope the allergy pill for Sister will help.
