She doesn’t bounce too long usually, does she? Has she eaten? How much does Dolly weigh and how much does the vet think she needs to weigh? I never thought of her as being overweight- she doesn’t look it in her photos. I always like older cats to have a little cushion to fall back on. But I understand about the breathing/congestion.

She is not eating, just gave her Mirtazapine. She weighs 13.4 and none of it is muscle. Start Antihistamines today, I hope. Waiting on delivery. Doctor told me there are anti-nausea properties in Mirtazapine. I have appt. Check back later. Thanks Suzanne.

Yes. I’ve also heard about mirt having some anti nausea effect. Didn’t the Zofran help her before?

That was mine. Dr wants her to just have the Cerenia. Can’t get her to eat much of anything. Thank goodness she stopped dropping. I am not home. I hope the Mirtazapine kicks in soon. Too much stress.

  • Dolly has only had some bites of food lc, mc, hc throughout the day. She has had Cerenia, what her doctor wants her on and Mirtazapine. She seems fine as far as no vomiting, will eat treats, definitely off but no signs of illness just her usual can’t smell.

I’m sure you are warming her food. Or feeding fishy stiff? You may want to consider using the little remedies thing we talked about with the decongestant in there — if you only use it sparingly — as long as your ver doesn’t say it is contraindicated due to other health conditions.

Dolly has only eaten a few bites here and there all day. I’ve given her lc, mc, and hc. I just got her to eat some white fish and sardines in sauce 18% carbs with some sardine water. Spoke with a IM doctor, her doctor was gone for the day. He said if she is not eating to only give her 1/2 of her insulin dose, she has eaten some food. She had Cerenia this morning, Mirtazapine at 11:00 am, 7 hours ago. The doctor said I could give her 1/3 to 2/3 more safely first thing in the morning. If that doesn’t work and still not eating she has to go in. I am concerned about the insulin, she has had a lot of bites ( does not equal a lot of food) of mc and hc. Just checked her BG and she is at 205. I know I probably should not have given all the mc and hc. I need to know if I should reduce her insulin. She can’t smell, other than that she looks and acts fine. Her new medication, antihistamine, comes tonight from compounding pharmacy. Sorry for bothering everyone again!!!

This is just a personal opinion, but if my cat weren’t eating I would not give the full dose. I would perhaps syringe feed though. That’s what I had to do with Darcy sometimes.

I asked the doctor about syringe feeding and he said if she is a fighter, she is and hates anything being put in her mouth, he would prefer I did not. He feels it could possibly go down the wrong tube causing more problems. I did buy some baby food. What is so strange is she is in the best mood. Non stop purring and such a loving mood. So you think I should give half of her 2.25u dose? Maybe give her 1.25u? Thanks for being here for us.

Hi Adrienne, If Dolly were my kitty, I would give the full dose whether she was eating or not. If she had a preshot number of 53, I would hesitate, but it looks like Dolly needs the insulin with these high numbers and I'd keep feeding her Dr. Elsey's if that's what she will eat.

I Already gave her half. Her Ketones are 1.1, high for her. Should we give her the other half? She's had a lot of high carbs today.

Hugs, Adrienne! I know it's hard not to panic but you know what you need to do, it's just hard to access it when you're in the moment.

The no insulin if the cat isn't hungry thing is some bad advice in my opinion that gets thrown around here. It just invites the possibility of ketoacidosis. It will take a few more hours before Lantus onsets. You have plenty of time to ply Dolly with food, anything she will eat. Not getting her usual dose of insulin would be worse for her than getting a green number in the 50s and 60s. You are very used to those, more than most CGs here. You have this, my friend!

Ravan's readings go up & down. It will be 4 years in February & he's now 19 yrs old. It's not likely he'll go into remission (but maybe miracles really do happen?)
Miracles do happen. 19 years old, that's wonderful. We had three cats at the same time that lived to that age. They ate canned tuna and dry food (would not recommend :stop:). Have a great day JoyBee and handsome Ravan.:):cat:
