Marvin and I have been through a lot since he was diagnosed over a tear ago. We are OFF the dry kibble completely! He is on 1 can of tiki cat luau or after dark mixed with 1/2 can purina urinary health 2x day. He is down to 2u vetsulin per day from 3.5. This was based on bg readings.

At his recent trip to the vet, they told me his sugar levels are textbook perfect for a well-controlled sugarcat.

The problem is his teeth. They're SO bad. He's scheduled to have several of his teefies removed due to resorbtion. My 14 years on the streets former stray non sugar cat (roger, for short) is having the same procedure. He has a heart murmur. It has been a process getting both of them scheduled.

Neither one will currently chew food. Roger-because his teeth are worse, Marvin-because if roger doesn't have to chew he's not gonna chew either. Hmph. Folks. I bought my cats their own mini-blender.

Roger is the sweetest boy. All the vets love him. Marvin? They called to ask if they could sedate him to get his pre-anaesthesia blood tests and xrays.

But that's where we are currently!

I think dentals are harder on us than they are on our kitties! I didn't go into another room of my house without my phone when China was having hers and it's such a relief when it rings and they say "your cat's dental is done and they'll be ready to go home in a few hours"!

They called to ask if they could sedate him to get his pre-anaesthesia blood tests and xrays.

Have you ever tried pre-medicating him at home with Gabapentin?

Yep. He was "doped" prior to heading to the vet. Both my boys like car rides, so that's not a stressor. Part of it is being separated from his mama for the procedures and part is that he knows those "vet" people like to poke him with stuff.
