Dolly will not eat, info at bottom of page. Due for insulin in 35 minutes. Has not eaten anything since late morning. Her numbers are dropping. Is it safe to give Mirtazapine? She had nausea meds at +8.5, it is now 11.5. She seems fine but won’t even eat her favorite gravy foods.

Sending healing prayers to all the kitties and their caretakers that are not feeling their best

I hope you see those yellows turn into solid blues.
So good to hear from you Acadaca. Things can change with our kitties so quickly. Dolly went from a tightly controlled Kitty to not doing so well health wise. There are lots of possibilities for her high numbers and I hate putting her through tests that may or may not work. I’ve finally stopped being scared seeing these unusual numbers for her. I just hope we can find a cause and cure. I hope FCC is doing well, numbers are good. Thanks so much for writing me and sending “hope” for Dolly. Have a wonderful day :):cat::bighug:

Hi Adrienne. I hope your vet appt goes well. Can I say something? Trying to read the Remarks on Dolly's spread sheet is very hard. The lettering is so small. Is there anyway you can enlarge the remarks so we can see what is going on? You know me. Eye problems. Today's remarks were well read as the font was larger. I would really love to be able to read what you are writing but this is entirely up to you. Good luck tomorrow.

So tomorrow is the day you take Dolly to the IM vet? Is this the same one who saw her before and suggested some options (all difficult) to pursue the cause of Dolly’s congestion?

How has Dolly been acting so far today?

You said you adopted Dolly 8 years ago. Tell me how you found her? At a shelter? I remember that it seemed like she was traumatized in her former home but you said that you couldn’t be sure what had happened to her. What a wonderful difference you made in her life.

Lots of love to dear Dolly and to you too, Adrienne!

Worried about Dolly. Last ate about 6 hours ago (+4). She is a grazer so usually eats off and on all day. Insulin increase today. Dropped nearly 60 points from +8.5 to +10.25. She had pain meds at +7 and liquid Cerenia 0.6ml @+8.5, concerned she may be nauseous and why she was not eating. Offered her favorite mc gravy food and she licked it a few times and that was it. Do you think it is safe to give her Mirtazapine? She is in a great mood, almost more active than most times. Rolling around for belly and ear rubs. No vomiting. Just checked her litter box and she had finally pooped, softer than usual but still formed, on the pale side but the foods she has been getting, fishy foods made her poop more pale. Now she has been eating FF Medleys Shredded Chicken and Turkey, she loves this stuff but won't eat that either. Dolly has been through a lot lately with the nasal steroid drops, wonder if that was why her numbers were high, just thinking about that, the IM doctor was doubtful they could raise her BG but it was a possibility. Last dose was Sunday night. Need advice.

Just tried a different gravy food 13%. Couple of licks and walked away. Insulin in less than 1 hour. She is at 140 now.

Any chance you have some ondansetron around? It's a much better drug for nausea.

You've shot lower than this before.
I’m not worried about the numbers, I’ve shot in the low 60’s. Just need to know if it’s safe to give Mirtazapine? She does not seem nauseous at all. My concern is the not eating. I have zophran but I can’t get a pill down her, never have. She always manages to spit it out. She’s happy and active for her. She licked the gravy food but walked away. Also concerned that she is dropping at end of cycle. She’s dropped a hundred points since this morning.

Got 2mg zophran down after lots of try’s. Dropped to 115. Terrified that insulin will keep her dropping and won’t be able to get her to eat. I can’t get her to eat.

Good on the zofran. By the way, you can get it as an injectible, which might be easier for you to give Dolly. I think you can give Mirtz 20-30 minutes after the ondansetron. You just want to make sure any nausea is gone first.

Should I give her the increase that I started this morning. I have a feeling it was the steroid drops that made her high.
How many milligrams is that? Half of a 4 mg tablet? Zofran can be constipating. I’m a fan of it for nausea, but it does constipate. Just something that you may have to balance. — but don’t worry about that unless you start her on it daily.

last dose Sunday night, they didn’t help her. She is eating some mc finally. No Mirtazapine for now. Will try lc in a bit. Thank you so much.

I gave her half of my one last tablet. The rest I have are sublingual. The steroid drops have to be what caused her numbers to be so high. Doctor felt there was a minimal chance of that happening.

She ate bites. Gave her Mirtazapine. She can get this way when her numbers drop fast like this. She has no interest in eating even gravy foods. Thanks Suzanne for being here for us. :bighug:
There are few things that stress me out more than when I cannot coax my cats to eat! It just takes so much out of a person trying different foods and treats…. only to have them rejected. I mean it somehow emotionally exhausts me. Maybe it’s the worry or feeling like I am running out of options to get my cat to eat! I feel so helpless at that point. I know my next move is syringe feeding. I hope Dolly will eat more with the Mirt on board! It’s ten times worse when it’s a diabetic cat who won’t eat. I guess this is my long-winded way of saying I empathize with you right now.

Thanks Suzanne. She’s dropped another 25 points but is eating a little 13% and 1%. Just want her to stop dropping.
