I have made so many friends on this site. I lost my Susie but do not want to lose my friends here, too. It does give me a purpose. I love supporting others. The diabetes journey is so darn hard. Thank you for encouraging me to stick around.
 
I don’t think the nasal steroids are working but I will continue until Monday when the IM doctor is in. Gave her some 11% shedded chicken mixed in with another lc food. She ate all she could find of the mc. The sardines that have no salt added she won’t eat, only the plain old sardines in water which does have salt. Just the water. She won’t eat sardines. Again I tried every different flavor. Gave her the expired Mirtazapine @+8, her new prescription won’t be here until tonight. Should not have waited so long. I guess the only thing I can do now is wait for the Mirtazapine to kick in and hopefully get her to eat more than she has.

The nasal steroids are not working but I will continue until Monday when the IM doctor is in. Gave her some 11% shedded chicken mixed in with another lc food. She ate all she could find of the mc. The sardines that have no salt added she won’t eat, only the plain old sardines in water which does have salt. Just the water. She won’t eat sardines. Again I tried every different flavor. Gave her the expired Mirtazapine @+8, her new prescription won’t be here until tonight. Should not have waited so long. I guess the only thing I can do now is wait for the Mirtazapine to kick in and hopefully get her to eat more than she has. The congestion is awful. I gave her Azithromycin on the every 72 hr schedule a few minutes ago. We were not going to continue but now I wonder if it was helping her. I sprayed her with some Ayr. Steam shower in awhile. Stressed her enough for the moment.

Hi Katherine, I think I sounded a bit abrupt, I am so sorry. This congestion just started a bit ago, the really noisy kind that is so painful to hear. I am hoping the Azithromycin helps, it was once our miracle drug and lasted a year. I will continue the nose drops until I talk to the doctor. We will see then what’s next. She is not too happy about going forward with the steroid shots with her diabetes. Unfortunately, we don’t have a diagnosis so it’s just trying different treatments. Ruby’s numbers look nice and calm, hope it continues. Thanks for being a kind and caring friend. :bighug:

Thanks Katherine. I have become this crazy frantic person I do not like. My calm, detailed self has fallen overboard and I desperately need to find her. :nailbiting: I make stupid mistakes when I am like this. And it’s exhausting. She just ate a few bites lc. Yay. Shot time in 1/2 hour. I missed documenting one of her tests.

It's hard not to get upset. Trust me, I know. It's hard having a sick kitty and they can't tell us what's wrong or the best way to help them. You're doing what you can. Just be open to what the doctors suggest, even if it will raise her BGs, and be patient with the process and with yourself. Dolly can feel your anxiety, too. Be good to yourself, my dear Adrienne.

I would have expected the steroids in the nose to have had an anti inflammatory effect in the nose almost immediately. I am very upset to hear that they’re not helping. Did the vet give you an indication of how long it would take to see an improvement if there will be one? I know this is really hard on you… seeing and hearing her with this severe congestion!

I forgot about the shower I turned on for our steam bath, 45 minutes later :banghead::banghead: was getting her dinner ready. Thanks to you I am okay with prednisolone, the doctor not so much, except as a last resort. I am going to have to give her 11% if she doesn’t start eating. She ate some of the lc, 11% mix. She would eat a whole can of shredded chicken. It’s so frustrating.

Pretty much right away. How terrible do you think eating more 11% would be. The range for diabetics cats is under 10% correct? I can’t syringe feed her. I’m pretty sure she will eat the shredded chicken.

You already know the answer to that, dear Adrienne. The most important thing is that she eats! I hope you get some rest. I worry about you (and Dolly too).

Thanks Suzanne. Pumping this Med, top does not come off and it’s metal. The solution is thick and pumping enough to get 0.1 ml into a syringe using the cap to pump into takes forever. It must be 15 sprays. 0.1 ml is 0.1ml, right :p I verified over and over with the doctor and tech about the amount. She’s okay so far but it seems like an awful lot. Way more than a human sprays in their nose. This is silly to say but I feel like I’m being punished for something bad I did and Dolly is getting the brunt of it. It’s so awful and painful putting her through all of this. :(

So it’s 0.1 mL to put up her nose? But it’s hard to get into the syringe ?

Every 12 hrs for a week. The med is nasal spray. I don’t spray it because she has to get 0.1 ml many many sprays. I have to pump the spray into something so I can draw into a syringe. It takes a lot of time. Dolly is remarkable, so forgiving, such a unbelievably good kitty. Roll her in a towel and lay her on her back on big pillows so I can put in her nostrils. Everything she has been through. You know, you’ve been there. I was always with you in the background. So many of us were, caring, sweet Suzanne. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
My vet showed me how to put a little bead on the end of their nose and tilt the head back and let it just kind of roll/flow down into the nasal passage. This worked for my cat Marcus - but he’s usually pretty accepting of things … plus he was very sick at the time!
