10/18/21 squints pmps 101, +20min 104, 197 +2

No food. We have other cats, so they would probably eat it. But i think I'm going to have to maybe keep him in a room by himself and get a timed feeder.
When will you be back? May not be a good idea for him to go all day without food. He could head lower later in the cycle like he did yesterday.

Can you put him in a room by himself and leave some food out?

I guess you will not be home for the +3?

My husband will be home at 330pm est. I just gave him some LC food

*I am not an expert*, but if you are following TR he hasn't earned a reduction quite yet. To earn a reduction with TR:
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 50 mg/dL and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* after 3 drops between 40 - 50 mg/dL on three separate days for kitties who have shown they do not hold reductions well and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) and stays under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week and following TR.

However, I do see he dropped to 52 one time, which is getting super close, so maybe someone here will recommend a reduction? His numbers are looking good! The philosophy of Tight Regulation is "shoot low to stay low", so I feel like you did the right thing. Make sure you get a +2 to see how he does tonight :)

I was terrified to shoot low numbers at first. The first time I shot a green number I was shaking haha but since then we've shot even as low as 65! The key seems to be to only do it if you're able/willing to stay around to monitor, test frequently, and are prepared with medium/high carb food. Let us know what he's at when it gets to +2 :)

My main concern is in the morning.. no one is home from 8am to 330 pm. So that scares me. But we are gonna get a timed feeder and keep him in a room if he is low...

That would make me nervous too. We're fortunate in that there is almost always someone home to keep an eye on our guy. The timed feeder is a huge life saver. Whenever our kitty gets low he gets ravenous and eating some MC (or even just LC mixed with a tiny bit of MC) usually does the trick with keeping his low numbers steady. It always gives me piece of mind at night. It'll be a huge help to be able to have a bunch of little meals available throughout the day and then test as soon as someone gets home.

If he's going to be alone for that long without anyone to monitor, one of the experts might suggest lowering the dose a bit. I haven't been in that situation yet, so I don't know if I'm that helpful.

Also, you may want to tag your thread with the ? thingy. I've found that helps get more eyes on it! Also feel free to tag folks who have helped you in the past to bring the post to their attention quickly

197 +2.

Hi Stephanie, you shot a similar number in the morning. I think you can now shoot blues without stalling :)

A timed feeder and putting him in a room by himself is a good idea. If you can shoot him at 5am, you can get a +3 before you leave. He seems to have a later onset with Lantus.

Lastly, we request members to limit themselves to one thread per day. It causes too much confusion to have multiple threads. You can just continue with the AM thread. You can change the thread title to reflect any questions you have.

I've combined your two posts of today into one. It's much better to have just one, or you'll have people posting to one or the other, which gets quite confusing. Plus, with the number of cats on this forum, two threads per day is double the work for those of us helping out.
