Torrey has been on Prozinc since the first of August. The vet did not mention anything about home testing. She was put on 2 units twice a day and on Glycobalance cat food. I found this site and immediately took her off of the Glycobalance and started home testing. Her morning ps numbers have never been below 200. She had had some evening ps numbers in the blue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I did a curve on Wednesday Oct 13.

Have you read the dosing sticky and chosen a method?

I would hold this dose - we dose based on nadir, and her nadirs are nearly perfect. It will take some time for the other numbers to come down.

The reason I ask about the method - with SLGS we reduce under 90, with Modified we reduce under 50. You test enough for the modified, BUT if there's any dry food in the picture at all you must do SLGS for safety. If all he gets is the low carb (under 10%) dry that's ok for the modified method.

She does share Dr Elsey dry food with her "sister". Between the 2 they get 1/2 cup of dry a day. Thanks

Just want to be sure this is corrected. The modified method does not allow for any dry food to be fed including “LC” dry food. If any dry food at all is fed, SLGS should be used. This is actually addressed in the requisites for the modified dosing method.

Ah thank you. I read through it to double check but must have missed it.

Edit: re-read. Would it be possible to edit the sticky at some point to specifically say no dry? I see it says low carb canned or raw, I made the assumption low carb dry was ok. Do you know the reasoning for no dry at all? I believe I saw someone else say recently low carb dry was ok, I will go look and see if that needs corrected

The modified PZ dosing is similar to TR with the L Insulins. Because both are more aggressive than SLGS, canned or raw must be fed as it can sometimes take dry a little longer to bring up low numbers and, once it does, it takes much longer to leave the system.

I don’t know how anyone could interpret “canned or raw” to include LC dry. :) Anytime anyone sees that someone is doing TR with L insulins or modified PZ dosing with PZ and is feeding any dry, the requisites should be linked and it should be explained that only SLGS can be used when feeding dey including LC dry.
