10/7 Mr Kitty No BG, Bloody Mucousy Vomit

13mL clear bloody fluid pulled. He stopped breathing at some point but they got him back. This vet says that kind of fluid it usually borrowed time; in my heart I know it. But I'll do what we've always done, put big girl pants on and do what we can. Our vet will call tonight. I don't believe Rutin works at this point, but will research.
I'm not upset; after everything this year I've accepted that any time we have left is a blessing.

Sometimes I feel part of the reason we're on this journey is education and advocacy. "He doesn't LOOK acromegalic" "I've never even heard of that drug he's on" sigh. Baby on hip, cat growling on carrier, let's have a chat

Oh Melissa I can cry right now, I'm actually tearing up now, I can't even see what I'm typing. Like you said just love him up and cherish the time you have with him
It's just still so heartbreaking. You are such a strong person!
I would be a basket case. Please give him kisses from me, we all love you Mr Kitty ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Aaaw. Well I am sad. I am supposed to be helping my son with his Spanish but I am getting teary-eyed. More later…

Okay, we finished Spanish... but my heart feels really heavy to hear the vet say this about Mr. Kitty. He was such a miracle kitty. And he even went OTJ! And you did such a great job with him. And he seemed to be so happy! Why can't any good news actually STAY good news for more than a little while. Still crying.

Melissa, The others said it all. When I heard they drained fluid the first time I knew it was serious. Being your heart kitty he has hung in longer than I would have thought and with good qua.it’s of life. I’m hoping for another miracle. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Spoke with vet. He said he doesn't think the rutin will work, since its purpose it thought to be removing fat and there wasn't fat in the fluid. He doesn't think infection or cancer, and any other causes are beyond our means to either diagnose or treat. He said give the Rutin a shot because there's no real harm, there's a theory that it somehow "boosts" the lymphatic system to process more fluid...no cat he's diagnosed with chylothorax has ever made it this long so he's at a bit of a loss.

@Wendy&Neko @Suzanne & Darcy do either of you know how slowly to back off cabergoline? It's just nagging in the back of my head that all this started when we started cab; though nothing in cats points to it, there are a few studies in humans involving pleural effusion determined to be caused by cab, although rare. I was giving it every day at first, then dropped to EOD, now I'm at about every 2.5 days ('cuz, life).

I'd rather back off and eliminate cab and deal with diabetes if it means keeping him alive, or at least give it a try.

The only one I know who tapered cabergoline to zero was @Bronx's dad (GA) but not sure how often Paul is on. Bronx's spreadsheet is no longer viewable so I can't look at that. Does your vet have any ideas on it? Just from looking at human tapering, you could probably go to every 4 days next. Or try halfing the dose first.

These are for you :bighug::bighug::bighug: Give Mr. Kitty some kisses from me, if he'll take them. Fight Mr. Kitty, fight as I know you can.

I did leave a message with the vet asking for his thoughts about say halving the dose with same frequency vs same 10mcg/kg dose but every 4+ days, I'm not sure if they're in tomorrow. Logically having the dose makes more sense to me.

Thank you :bighug: he accepts affection as long as it doesn't come from dogs or veterinary staff :joyful: I hear he gave both a what-for today, silenced the whole kennel

Yes. I think you have a good idea about tapering.

I also see he's been around. He did post this over in acro forum few years ago.

Edit: Realistically I don't think we have 3-4 weeks like RVC vet recommended. I think I'll shoot for a week...1/2 next two doses, then 1/4 for the two after that, then none. Unless vet disagrees, but I think he's just being dragged along on the Melissa and Mr Kitty ride poor guy

Edit 2 brain all over the place: I assume test BG once a day good enough, 2 hours or so after food? Until I possibly see numbers climb?

Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear this news, Melissa. You really are "bomb proof" as you said a while back and the phrase, though I never heard it before, stuck with me. I have a hunch that Mr. Kitty is a born survivor. You guys have been through so much and he still bounced back. I'm hoping it's the same, but I also understand QoL and the toll it takes on your family. Hang in there. You have so many cheerleaders here. Big hugs.

Hi Wendy, I didn't know Bronx's SS wasn't available, I think that is corrected. I weaned him off Cabergoline in the March-April timeframe in 2017. SS comments shows what I did with dosage.

Hi Melissa, I think Bronx's SS is now viewable. In April-March of 2017 I weaned him off the Cabergoline in preparation for the radiation treatments, comments in the SS show the dosage. I wish you all the best with Mr Kitty. Acro is a horrible disease, but the bond Bronx & I shared from the extra care and attention he needed after the DX grew stronger and stronger every day.

Thank you Paul. We are fortunate to have caught it early, and the cab got him into remission, but this pleural effusion is effectively a death sentence so I'm grasping at straws with some last ditch efforts. Do you happen to remember the concentration you had? SS just mentions 0.4mL and 0.8 mL, and that he was about 17 lbs.

I don't remember the concentration we had Melissa, sorry. So sorry about the pleural effusion Mr Kitty has, acromegaly truly sucks.

Well said, Katherine! ❤️❤️❤️
