10/7, Susie, 233 @+11

Sumner since you live in Florida you can buy the Publix brand called Clearlax it's the same thing, it will say it on the bottle that it's the same as Miralax but cheaper
Unflavored or any drug stores brand. Just mix it up really good with the water before you syringe it

ClearLax, Polyethylene Glycol 3350 Powder for Solution,

They are all the same thing
Thanks, Diane. Anytime I can save some money it is good.

@Summer and Susie see Post #18 above. Jan talks about the Miralax mixing in with water. I'm confused because above it looks like Diane is quoting you. I just want to make sure you got this question answered.
Yes, I saw the post but found that 2 tsps of water was too much. It made for a pretty big syringe content to shoot into Susie's mouth. I didn't want to drown her so I backed it down to 1 1/4 tsp water.

I AM VERY HAPPY TO SAY THAT I AM GETTING THE PREDNISOLONE. Dr. Smith was extremely hesitant to order it for Susie and wanted to make sure I knew it could put her in a life-threatening position. He will be calling in a "non-sugar" compound and we will try it for 10 days and then he wants to see her. I hope to get it sometime tomorrow or Saturday. I'm very happy but I am also frightened. I don't want to put her life in jeopardy with not being on top of the glucose changes. I'm really hoping the pred will improve her appetite too.

Susie did well tonight at dinner. I put down some l/c fish, some m/c FF gravy and a bowl of Dr. Elsey's. She looked at all three and started eating the fish (go figure). Then, after a pretty good portion was eaten, she went to the m/c and ate a few bites of that. Then she went back to the l/c and had a few more bites of that. Maybe the Mirataz finally kicked in. Needless to say, I gave her her insulin tonight. I think I will sleep better tonight with the good news and Sus eating some dinner. Thank you and bless you all for always having our backs.

Thanks, Diane. Anytime I can save some money it is good.
You are welcome that's great news you are getting the pred !
I'm positive everyone will help you with the glucose changes who have their cats on pred.
I'm so happy she ate her dinner tonight! She just wanted you to put out a smorgasbord for her :p. Sending prayers for the pred will help. I think you will rest easier now that you have a plan

Yes, I will rest much easier tonight. With her eating, and a plan, I am hopeful. It was a smorgasbord!

Is that what this means " (starting dose, 1 mg/kg PO q12h
As others have said, Suzie is around 5 kg. PO means orally by mouth, q12h means every 12 hours or twice a day. So that's 5 mg twice a day by mouth. However, with prednisolone, you can just double the dose and give it once a day if you want, or split it to two doses a day. 10 mg a day is a very common starting dose for cats with GI issues of around Susie's size. I believe @PerfumedCatMom tried twice a day in order to try to even out pred's impacts on the blood sugar.

I get prednisolone compounded into a chicken flavour chew treat. It's extremely easy to give!

Glad to hear the vet is getting the pred for you to give and that she's finally eating today.

I give Ruby 5mgs of pred daily, split into two doses of 2.5 each day. The pills are scored and easy to break in two by hand. We tried 5 mgs once a day at AMPS and she was going very high in the cycle it was given and then very low the next. Now that I have split the dose, her BGs are a bit more steady and even though still tending to go lower around PMPS, but it's not unmanageable. I increased her insulin dose from a drop to 2.5 and we've stayed at this dose for quite a while now because she hits the 50s and 60s at least once every three days, and green numbers every 2 days. Given how much I work and how much I need to sleep, this is the best I can hope for with Ruby. She still has her bouts of not eating, but we are light years better than she was without the steroid.

Good luck with the pred, Summer. :)
