Susie seems to be doing well, again, this morning (except AMPS).

An assistant to the ER intern called last night to find out how Susie was eating on the Mirataz. I missed the call but am happy someone from the clinic is following up. I'll call back in a little while and see if I can get some answers from him.

Many, many prayers for Bandit and Bhooma. :bighug:

Give Susie love from us - a big ol kind of kiss!
Unless she wouldn’t approve.
Wishing you spiritual peace and relaxation. I “babysat” my dad and nephew this weekend (dementia and autism) and had moments I laughed so much I couldn’t stop crying. Other times just a brief cry. Still beautiful. Life is. Another God bless, with no intentions other than God bless!

I spoke to my vet and the ER intern's assistant today. Both vets are happy that Susie is doing better and just want me to continue to monitor her.

My vet said I could take her off the buprenorphine and see how she does. Honestly, I don't remember what he said about putting her on it if he said it at all. It was actually the other vet in the clinic that put her on it. I can cut back on the fluids to every other day. He will give me a script for B-12 injections if I want it because it won't hurt her if she doesn't need it. Something about the GI panel being more for intestinal issues that the stomach. He mentioned that I should have another ultrasound in two weeks or two months depending on how she is doing and that he can do it much cheaper than the ER clinic but did admit that the ER clinic is probably more experienced. He said the stomach is hard to ultrasound because it is mobile and if there is gas in there in can hide issues.

ER intern's assistant said Dr. Smith wants to hold off on anything else right now too because Susie is better. I am to watch her and if she starts having problems and becomes symptomatic then we will address the issue of the Prednisolone.

Susie seems okay again today but is a little dopy so I am curious to see how she does without the pain meds. Fingers crossed and prayers said that she continues to improve.

Susie doesn't like kisses too much but appreciates the sentiments.
Like the word "carefree", spiritual peace and relaxation is not much in my vocabulary these days but does invoke a feeling of well-being.:D
Sounds like you had your hands full this weekend with dad and the nephew. Bless you for being there for them both. It is wonderful that Tina Marie (pretty name) has been in remission for so long. Thanks for caring enough to check in on Susie and me.:bighug:

Oh Summer, I get quite attached to kitties and their people. I was one of the first to "talk" to you when you came to this forum and started Lantus. Susie looks a lot like a dear kitty of mine who passed almost 3 years ago - lived to almost 19. She did NOT have Susie's big heart on the chest though, or that adorable mustache!

Glad Susie is feeling better. The vet is right about the GI panel being better for intestinal rather than stomach issues. When and if you feel the need to do an ultrasound again, do it with a board certified radiologist rather than at your regular vet. It costs more but it is much more precise and the radiologist will be much more experienced and therefore more peace of mind for you.

Hope she stays on the up and up, Summer, and do try the other foods suggested. It may make a real difference, not only with Susie's appetite and stomach issues but also with her numbers. Before Ruby started prednisolone and had flares, it always showed up in her numbers. A different diet may mean less inflammation and more steady BGs.

Yes, your name and your beautiful kitty's name are very familiar to me. Your Susie "look-alike" lived to a ripe, old age. I have always loved the tuxedos and the blacks. I love my girl's heart and 'stache. Thanks for being beside me on this journey. I always said to myself how happy I was that Susie didn't have the extra medical issues that so many kitties on this site have. Well, I guess she is now joining the other kitties.

Thank you, Katherine. I was looking around, yesterday, at the Ziwi and the Nature's Variety Instinct Limited Ingredient food. Not all of it is low carb. According to the Cat Food- Nutritional Composition Chart I think only the Nature's Variety lamb, turkey and ultimate protein chicken are low carb and they are actually pretty high in the low carb category. Susie already eats a lot of chicken and turkey so those would not be novel proteins. I also have a lot of questions regarding switching her to a low carb novel protein diet. What if her glucose drops low? How do you supplement with a higher carb food that is not totally new for her and keeps her in the novel protein category? She is very used to the higher carb Fancy Feast. Also, doesn't it take weeks (sometimes) to transition a cat off of her old food and onto a new one? I also don't have a Petco near me (I don't think) and it looks like I would have to purchase a whole box of something on the Internet. What if she doesn't like it? Anyway, I'm not saying that I won't give this a lot of consideration because I do see it can be the first line in dealing with IBD - if she even has that. Lot's of questions about changing her diet.

I was looking at this chart regarding the Nature's Variety Limited Ingredient carb content: https://catinfo.org/chart/index.php . There are many limited ingredient options on that list for you to choose from.

Higher-end of low carb might not necessarily be bad for Susie. You always say that you have no idea how carb sensitive she is, so maybe it's time you found out. I have been realizing that higher carb food might be helping Ruby and stopping her from bouncing really high. If the higher carb novel protein food is better for her overall well-being and gets her to eat, all you need to do is increase her insulin in response.

If her BGs drop, you can give her a small bit of honey mixed into her low carb food instead of the high carb FF that might inflame her stomach.

Sometimes does take a long time to transition a cat from one food to another. Patience, persistence, and a willingness to experiment on your part is required.

Facebook is down right now, but when it's up again, join the FB group Raw Feeding for IBD Cats. Even though the name of the group is about raw feeding, the moderators there are experts at dealing with cats with food sensitivities, IBD, and SCL. It's not all about feeding raw. There are lots of very experienced people there. When Ruby's ultrasounds were abnormal and I transitioned both of my cats to homemade food they were incredibly helpful with looking at labs, reports, and giving me tips on feeding. There are caregivers of cats with diabetes there as well. Another wonderful FB group is called Feline Nutrition.

Hi Summer. I’m very glad to hear that Susie is continuing to improve and is eating! Yes, I wouldn’t bother spending money on the Texas A&M GI panel either since Susie’s problem seems to be with the gastric outflow tract - (I am assuming the small intestine appeared unremarkable on the ultrasound since they were not mentioned - which is good). All pretty good news on your part. That makes me smile!

Thank you, Katherine. I was looking at another chart about the cat food. I think it is the food chart that Dr. Lisa put out in 2017. I cannot seem to attach it properly. file:///C:/Users/Summernole/Desktop/CatFoodProteinFatCarbPhosphorusChart%20(1).pdf

I'll look at the chart you have provided. By the way, I believe I have joined the Raw Feeding for IBD Cats Facebook site. My membership was pending and I couldn't log on this evening. I will give all of this more attention. Thank you.

Thanks, Suzanne. Susie was hungry tonight but didn't eat (thus far). I hope this is not the beginning of more problems. Will comment on it tomorrow morning.

Went back with a can of FF ocean whitefish. She is now eating. Seems the only foods she wants now are the FF whitefish, salmon and cod. I don't think I will be starting a new food anytime soon. I spent a lot of money on Dave's 95% and she won't touch it. I have Weruva sitting in my pantry and Tiki Cat. Absolutely no interest. I think my local shelter will appreciate these cans.

Facebook had an outage today. Don’t know if it’s back up and working.
