Hi! I'm a Korean. (I think its't common here)
My cat is a young only three years old. Recently has diabetes without any other diseases.

There is also information on cat diabetes on the Korean website, but I found out about this place after looking for more information from google.

As I looked around here for a few days, I found out that I had to fill out information on my signature, fill out and share a Google spreadsheet. And I know I'm leaving the first post here, so I'm working on the first one.

My son started with Lantus 1 unit, increased to 2.5 units, and then decreased back to 1.5 units. I've been shooting 1.5 units twice a day for two weeks.
Recently, my concern is that 1.5 units of blood sugar is not constant. He has a freestyle libre. So I can see the flow of blood sugar, which was stable at 100-180 until 4 days ago, then suddenly soared to 300, and since then, the flow of blood sugar has changed irregularly. He had @2 low point and then suddenly went up, and one day, kept going down...
What has changed is that the amount of meals has increased by 10~15g/day as his condition has improved recently.

Anyway, I'll create a SS and share it!
Please give me a lot of advice!

I have a question on feeding Orijen Fit & Trim. I read on Amazon.com that it contains 16% carbs which is high for a diabetic kitty in my opinion.
High carb food can drive the blood glucose numbers up. Is it possible for you to begin to transition your "son" to wet food like low carb pates?
I personally understand that this can be most difficult.

Unfortunately, my cat hates wet food very much. I tried almost all the low-carb wet foods that could be purchased in Korea, but all failed except for the "Naturo". Feeding Naturo is not easy because he doesn't eat more than one cup a day. Perhaps he thinks that is a only snack. So the best food I found is Orijen.

I understand completely. My cat sometimes tries to bury her wet food.
I think your cat may be a little overweight. Please research how much dry food he should be eating. He might not need as much as you think.

Hello, and welcome! It's hard to give you advice without a spreadsheet. We are very data driven here and will need that to help you. It is quite normal for glucose levels to go up and down at the beginning. Getting your cat to eat wet food will help a lot. There are only three kinds of dry foods recommended for feline diabetics and I'm not sure you can get them in Korea: Dr. Elsey's, Wysong Epigen 90, and Young Again. We don't have a lot of Asian caregivers on the site, so our information is not so thorough when it comes to foods, but here is a thread that lists different foods from all over the world, so perhaps the ones on the Australia and New Zealand lists will be useful for you: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/links-to-food-charts.174182/

I'm tagging @Bandit's Mom here, who is from Mumbai, and she can help you with your spreadsheet and perhaps give you some suggestions on getting low carb dry food for your kitty. He's so young to be diabetic! I wonder if the diabetes is diet related as it usually strikes cats who are much older.

My cat is surprisingly not that overweight. He just has a high and long physique than other cats. Doctor also said that my cat doesn't have to go on a diet.

Unfortunately, all three foods you mentioned(Dr. Elsie, Wisson Epigen 90, English Gain) are not imported into Korea. I know, Wisson Epigen90 is no longer imported due to vomiting-causing problems.

Hi Aida, welcome to FDMB! I am in India and we don't have very many options for low carb food here either. And Bandit will not touch wet or raw food.

Young Again is available in Singapore and I think Dr. Elsey's is available in China and HK. I don't know if you have the option of getting it shipped from any of these places. Might be quite expensive to do so. Is raw food an option for you? Will DJ eat that?

The lowest carb dry food that I could find in India was Farmina N&D which is around 16-18% carbs. Orijen dry food is also about the same 18-19% carbs.

I can help you with setting up the spreadsheet. Will only take me a minute.

Oh! Famina N&D boar & apple was my cat's favorite food! But from one day on, he stopped eating it because he didn't like it. Just in case, would it be more helpful to try Famina again than Orijen?
My cat is very picky about food. He doesn't eat food that he used to eat well for no reason from one day, and he doesn't eat wet or raw food at all...T.T
Now! What should I start with to make a spreadsheet? I already have Libre DM, meals, and injections records from 8/11 to now!

Yeah, I would say Farmina N&D is more or less compatable to Orijen on the carbs front, so either is fine if those are the only options.

Hi Bhooma I just happened to be looking at DJ's SS should she reduce by 0.25 units following SLGS ,I see DJ dropped below 90
In the past he also did but she never reduced
Hold the dose for at least a week:
  • Unless your cat won’t eat or you suspect hypoglycemia
  • Unless your kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L). If kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L) decrease the dose by 0.25 unit immediately.
After 1 week at a given dose perform a 12 hour curve, testing every 2 hours OR perform an 18 hour curve, testing every 3 hours. Note: Random spot checks are often helpful to "fill in the blanks" on kitty's spreadsheet. The goal is to learn how low the current dose is dropping kitty prior to making dose adjustments.
  • If nadirs are more than 150 mg/dl (8.3 mmol/L), increase the dose by 0.25 unit
  • If nadirs are between 90 (5 mmol/L) and 149 mg/dl (8.2 mmol/L), maintain the same dose
  • If nadirs are below 90 mg/dl (5mmol/L), decrease the dose by 0.25 unit

That is great. Yes, some cats are just hefty and weigh more. Glad to see from your SS that DJ is at least trying wet food sometimes.
That gives you hope.

Sadly, not long ago, I tried ziwipeak on my cat, and he began to reject Naturo anymore. Maybe Ziwipeak was too shocking for him... LoL

If I were you I will try few things.

1. I will try CIAO liquid food. The reason is I find that tasty liquid food with a strong scent is the only thing that my cats always eat when they suffer from serious diseases such as Kidney disease and Cancer. Definitely a life-saver and I would recommend everyone have them in their home. It is worth a try to understand what your cat like. It is low carb. The problem with that food is it is a snack not staple food and the strong scent may get them addicted. But if they like it, you can use it to mix with other healthy wet food you want to feed for long-term, to have the cat get use to the wet food and eventually accepts it. Then gradually reduce feeding the liquid food.

2. Since your cat accepts dry food, you may use a blender or hammer to crush the dry food, then mix it in wet food in a degree that your cat cannot selectively eat them. For example, only the first day, you may feed your cat 100g of dry food, the second day you feed your cat 90g of dry food and 10g of wet food, again to make them use to wet food.

3. Try cat dry freeze food, like chicken pellets, they can be almost 0 carb (but very expensive), their texture and scent may someone resemble dry food.

To deal with cat "not eating healthy food" , the more you try, the better! It is difficult and time-consuming, but this skill is definitely essential. When you cat get sick and refuse to eat which can be very dangerous, you can response quickly because you already know how to tempt your cat to eat. So, spent more time on learning this.
