Mable AMPS 142, +3 86, +5 100, +10 125 PMPS 122,+2 120. AMPS 86

Fed mc food at +3 and +9 and of course treats for testing.
I was able to also take double readings but figure lower numbers are safer.
AMPS 144, +5 110, +10 134

Does testing every get any easier? We've been doing this for two weeks and mable sits very well on my lap but seems stressed and shakes a little bit. I dont know if it's pancreatitis pain or if she's scared.

We're also not doing TR but her pre shots never really seem to be above 150 unless we skip a shot.

Hi Courtney,

Not to discourage you but it took me weeks of :blackeye::(:confused::stop::banghead: to get both me and my cat accustomed to testing. Now I warm the rice sock in the microwave and when she hears the beeping she comes sauntering out of where ever she was napping and jumps up on the couch for the test. It helps for me to feed her a small snack of food right after so she associates testing with a reward. Some kitties do well with a low carb treat like freeze dried chicken from Purebites as an enticement.

Since you're on SLGS and you caught that 86 today (good job!) you would reduce the dose down to .1 units. Here is a photo to show you how to measure that on a syringe.

If you could get in at least one test at night, that would help us a lot with getting a better picture of what is going on with Mable's BG levels.

I see an ultrasound was done. What were the results? It's amazing how much other illnesses can affect BG levels.

Ultrasound determined a sterile cyst. No explanation of true cyst vs pseudotumor but it has grown a few mm since diagnosis 2 months ago.

Our vet wanted a curve done to be sent in after 1 week on .25U. They weren't aware I had already made the change days prior so I'm hesitatnt to drop to .1 also because I don't yet have calipers. I dont want to delay mable's progress backwards. The vet also asked for info on how to dose small increments so I guess I can send her the info about caliper measurements.

Yes we do purebites for treats after testing and sprinkled on food when she doesn't want to eat. :)

If you can get more tests in, especially at night, a switch to Tight Regulation might help Mable get regulated more quickly. This means any number above 50 is good to give insulin, and you reduce the dose if you get any number below 50. If you are nervous about where her numbers are, you can get a +11 test and then post here and one of us can help you determine if you should go ahead with insulin.

I found .1 units to be among the easiest doses to eyeball. All you need to do is bring the plunger of the syringe right under the zero line. You don't need calipers to do that. I stop using calipers with doses smaller than .25. You can also practice by drawing some insulin and seeing how many drops come out. .1 units should be around 2-3 fat drops.

If you do not test at night it is dangerous to continue with .25. Are you feeding wet or dry DM?

Get a +2. If it’s much lower than the pmps a later test may be needed as it could be an active cycle. If higher you should be fine for the night. Add the results to your title.

Maybe eventually we can figure out TR but the amount of testing it takes I don't feel is something we can commit to right now. Doing our current routine is very stressful.

Can you get one more test at either +3 or +4? Do you have a timed feeder you can set if not? Tge .25 dose will effect the next few cycles, up to 4 cycles actually.

We were unable to get a +4 last night but he works evenings and is up during the time i sleep to when i wake up. She ate. And we alway leave food out.

AMPS this morning was 86. It took 40 minutes to test and i couldn't stall because it was time to go to work for which i was already late.

I guess i have to wake up even earlier.

Do we hold .1 for 4 cycles or do we decrease to a drop? I feel like shes not enough and that's why our numbers are low and not because shes actually getting regulated.

I get the protocol im just questioning if that's the right move. That's nuts! What happens if her numbers go up again?

With SLGS you would hold for 7 days and then evaluate based upon the nadirs. I know she’s not eating a lot but it doesn’t take a lot of food to raise the bg. When we use food to get the bg up just a couple teaspoons will do it. There’s a good chance she’s going otj.

With TR the reduction number is under 50. I still would not shoot if a cat was new to low preshots and the caregiver was not going to be able to monitor. You can’t stall and can’t shoot a token dose really either.
